Bargain basement pitching will almost always get you low tier, barely adequate pitching. Give young guys a shot, buy some premium talent, but don't put out these low tier castoffs and expect people to be happy with them. Why the penny pinching? Ultimately you either play to win or go home.
Basically this... but the model will be to draft and develop pitching over the next few years. That, and maybe trade some prospect depth at C for pitching prospects. Spending money is not going to happen.... Still MM or Fedde could be moved to mop up and McGreevy given a shot. He may fail, but he will probably be at least as good as MM or Fedde, and he has the chance to improve. They won't....

Who on this team, if you're an opposing GM, would you trade a top of the rotation pitcher for? Maybe Winn and another piece? Trading for a TOTR pitcher is problematic. Much more probable to sign a free agent if one is available, but that takes dollars. Dollars is the one thing this team covets more than winning. Maybe you could pluck a pitcher like Wainwright from a team with the right combo, but even then he probably spends years in the minors. If you can get some of your minor league nest eggs up to the majors and get them producing then you could possibly field a competitive rotation. I doubt DeWitt wants to start the clock on more than one though, and that's McGreevy I guess.
