Extending Broberg and Holloway Will Be The Priority

Post by Red7 »

Don’t expect Armstrong to go diving into the FA pool (except maybe to re-sign Faksa) until he’s extended Broberg and Holloway. One advantage he has right now is they can get up to two more years in term than if they wait and become UFA’s after next season when the new CBA kicks in. Both will likely surpass the deals signed by Thomas and Kyrou. That’s just the economics of professional sports.

He already said that was NOT a priority. Nor is a Fowler extension.

This isn't really a knock on broberg, but I haven't seen 8 million plus per year out of him yet. We'll see what he does this coming season, but I don't see him surpassing the $$ of Thomas and kyrou any time soon. Maybe holloway will if he has another 65-70 point season this year.

That was then. This is now, or at least closer to now. There is still work to do re another 2/3-C and a RHD. And there are minor questions re Holloway’s return from the oblique (should be very minor after 5 months rehab) as well as Broberg’s real ceiling (he’s real good).
But yes they can be patient for now. It will work out.

Armstrong clearly stated that he didn't want to set the new bar with the cap jumping again next season. Agents know that and are looking to cash in for their clients. So, he is waiting for the others to set the market.

They will be RFA's, correct?

I"m quite interested to see what Doug will/won't do/try to do with them this summer.

Great take. I loved what I saw from Broberg before his injury and late in the season, but there were some points in between where he did not look like an 8m player. Holloway's performance was incredible with Kyrou, but he does have some injury history.

Both are RFAs at the end of this contract and aren't going anywhere - not sure why the Blues would be in a hurry to resign them. The Blues have already proven to the players they're willing to pay them, so why go nuts before its necessary - especially when there's some minor question marks?

If they're not handled this summer, my hope is it will be before the calendar year ends. That would mean both started well next season and we want to lock them up as core pieces moving forward.

by waiting, it's just gonna cost em more

is there risk by doing that? of course.. there's risk with every contract, but IMO it'd be smart to lock em up now

broberg 8/7
holloway 8/8

if they'd sign that do it now

The less that comes out publicly the better., we'll know when something gets done. Both sides must agree to get something done.
