It may be. but it will take time...having a lame duck Mo-ran being the face of the franchise is disheartening...and having people constantly defending him on every thread is exhausting...how does anyone have that much [fork]ing time?... but, maybe they are basically alone and this is their only social interaction...and that is sad.desertrat23 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:18 pmThe apologists get angry when you say this, but it's a pretty solid anecdote. It's obvious that a lot of other people feel the same way. Doesn't it take as much time to attack him?

This has become an unreadable thread. Let's talk baseball. The tread was about Kyle Tucker.

Let's talk baseball then. Mo has been part of the Cardinals organization for 30 years at many levels, and has been a contributor to much of the success over the years. It's time for him to move on now, and he knows it.Bad14 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 17:00 pmHe's talking about how much time it takes people to constantly defend Mo
As far as Tucker, it's a pipe dream and not worth the time to discuss it.

I also don't want them to sink that much money into one playerCranny wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 17:07 pmLet's talk baseball then. It's PAST time for him to move on. So much of this could have been solved if they had thanked him for his service, paid him his last year, and put him in some "advisory" role that did nothing after last season. They'd have drawn more fans this year, earned more revenue, and accomplished the same thing. But they chose Mo.Cranny wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 17:07 pmLet's talk baseball then. And as for Tucker, you're right. It's a pipe dream for one reason and one reason only: Bill DeWitt won't spend the money. Everything else is academic. It's sad that a proud franchise shouldn't even bother talking about elite players in the market, but it's where we are.

So now we know how you feel about Kyle Tucker and the Cardinals and we don't need to be reading a bunch of sideways stuff when we get to page 25 of the thread.Cranny wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 17:07 pmLet's talk baseball then. I think the Cardinals "could' afford him if they were determined to do that, especially if the could move Arenado (or even Gray to the Braves?). Our payroll would be really low. However, there are 3-6 extensions to try for in the next few years and that will take up some of the slack. He would really lengthen the lineup, much as he has done for the Cubs. At the end of the day, I agree when Cranny says it is a pipe dream. Not because they can't, but because they won't.
Re: The Cardinals with Kyle Tucker.
It's time for Mo to move on? Sure. Every career at a company has a course to run. He has run his course. And if it should have happened before, so be it. You can't change it so there's no use moaning about it.desertrat23 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 17:13 pmIt's PAST time for him to move on. Tucker? Tucker is probably going to price himself out of all the small to midsized market teams.

You're correct of course, I can't change it. But that's what this place is for, to vent. I guess I'm just not over the fact that DeWitt chose an executive who's long overstayed his welcome over the most loyal fans in the game. Others might be, and that's up to them. But judging by the empty seats, I'd say I'm not alone.

Yes… it’s a bit disingenuous to suggest the Cardinals aren’t signing top FA because they prefer to see how a player fits with the team. They aren’t signing top FAs because it’s not financially prudent in their market. That is the only real reason.Cranny wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:34 pmDisingenuous? By telling the truth about what the Cardinals have said? As I’ve said (sorry to be redundant again), the only FA action you’ll see are short term free agent contracts with relievers and with older guys aka Berkman and Beltran. But huge long term FA contracts for guys in their prime? - Naw. Not going to happen.desertrat23 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 14:56 pmNo one is disputing that DeWitt said that. Why don’t you look at the trades they have made that prove what BDW, Jr. was saying - Holliday, Ozuna, Goldy, Arenado, etc. They prefer trades to FA signings. They have ever since BDW, Jr. and other investors bought the team. When they strayed from it with Fowler, Leake, Cecil, etc. it only proved their point more.
1. You can’t be truly successful without being successful at a high level in the FA market in 2025.
2. If DeWitt and his team can’t hit on free agents when they do “stray,” they need to change their FA evaluation process and/or find people who CAN be successful at evaluating and signing free agents.
They don’t have a real chance at signing top free agents, and cannot afford the risk of getting it wrong if they do.
Re: The Cardinals with Kyle Tucker.
The Cardinals have had a different business plan than your FA plan for many years, Quincy. Build through the system and trade to fill holes as needed. It’s brought them a ton of winning seasons and 2 World Championships this century. Don’t expect it to change.Quincy Varnish wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 17:30 pmYes… it’s a bit disingenuous to suggest the Cardinals aren’t signing top FA because they prefer to see how a player fits with the team. I don’t have an FA “plan”, nor do I expect any significant change in their approach to free agency.
Keep waving those flags, and don’t expect any more in the near future.
Re: The Cardinals with Kyle Tucker.
Why are BDW/MO more than happy to overpay on middling talent rather than put eggs in the Elite basket and fill in internally. An elite player or 2 HAS BEEN what put the Cards over the top when they won those 2 WS this CenturyCranny wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 18:34 pmThe Cardinals have had a different business plan than your FA plan for many years, Quincy.
