Really it's Nic Roy for the rights to UFA Marner. Ultimately, Toronto signing him was just a formality to get the 8th year on paper.

Agreed. TO did well to get Roy for him otherwise VG would have just signed as UFA and added another $1m and he get only a 7 yr contract. VG salary dump and TO gets a decent 3C.
