Marchand staying in FLA
Wow looks like Fla managed to do it...
Hearing Brad Marchand is closing in on a six-year extension in Florida...just under $32M is the total.
The Panthers pulled it off. Verrrrrrrrrrry impressive

Don’t tell me a tax free state doesn’t make a difference.

6 years at 37 years old? This is getting insane

Yea idk with they are thinking with term here he will be 43?
Pretty much proves state income tax is a huge deal now though. Every team is trying to find their cap exploits since vegas..

Re: Marchand staying in FLA
I don’t really think this proves out the state tax thing. I mean it’s definitely a real thing bc I moved to FL to get away from MOstate tax so I get it for sure. But there’s no way in hell that he thought he would be getting a 6 year deal at age 37. This is just another way of circumventing the salary cap. $32m for a 37 yo? Florida will just buy him out in a few years. I’m sure the contract is front loaded. Or he’ll go on permanent injury similar to what Petro just did. These owners will do anything they can to pay players money even though they wanted the salary cap. It’s crazy!Unfathomable wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:18 pm Yea idk with they are thinking with term here he will be 43?

Didn't the Devils get hammered on the Kovy deal for this?britishblue wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:23 pm Im sorry a 6 year at 37?!

Re: Marchand staying in FLA
Rich teams can just put them on LTIR when they are done playing. They'll just pay them because they can afford it.

Re: Marchand staying in FLA
No they massively front loaded the deal with the final few years of it paying Kovy whatever the league min was with the intention of him retiring prior to those years. That kept the aav low. Thats why the last CBA brought in limits on year on year values and also the 35+ contracts.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:24 pmDidn't the Devils get hammered on the Kovy deal for this?britishblue wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:23 pm Im sorry a 6 year at 37?!

If Marchand retires during his contract for example his cap hit will still count.
LTIR is still possible for 35+ contracts though so ....
Re: Marchand staying in FLA
Ah yea, it is different but the LTIRetirement has got to be to ultimate plan. I honestly think the league needs to step in on this onebritishblue wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:34 pmNo they massively front loaded the deal with the final few years of it paying Kovy whatever the league min was with the intention of him retiring prior to those years. Re: Marchand staying in FLA
I wouldn't doubt that Marchand plays the length of the contract, but thinking short term another Cup or two makes this deal worth it. $5M per season with the cap going up won't be so hard to swallow for what he can bring in the playoffs and locker room.

Im sure Marchand has got injuries now that, should he wish, he could have surgery on.
Its just stupid.

Re: Marchand staying in FLA
Lol signing a 37 year old to a 6 year deal. This is so obviously [nonsense], but nothing will happen.

What's the problem? Why does something need to happen?bluetunehead wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:50 pm Lol signing a 37 year old to a 6 year deal. This is so obviously [nonsense], but nothing will happen.
Re: Marchand staying in FLA
Yes, he had a great playoff run; but I honestly thought he'd get a 2yr deal from Toronto.
Good on him, but this is crazy level stuff.
