Boeser is wanting 6yrs x $9M. Mariner is wanting $14M/yr. Yet players like Tavares and Duchene who can fill a similar roles are signing for $4M.
I am not saying either is on the same level as Mariner, but the disparity in contracts is much wider than the disparity in output.
With Blues youth, I would rather have a veteran players for his last two good years for $3-4M,
Price of players is not consistent….

Duchene and Tavares have both made a boat load of money in their career and are taking discounts to play for their preferred teams that have known cap concerns. Marner and Boeser are chasing a big contract.rezero wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 21:58 pm Boeser is wanting 6yrs x $9M. Mariner is wanting $14M/yr. If you can find a stud veteran who wants to take a discount to play for the Blues then great, but I’m not sure that guy is out there.

Re: Price of players is not consistent….
There is soon going to be a realization that the superstar long term contracts even with the cap rising are not an optimal means to build a Stanley Cup winner. One player may get you to the postseason but the way the game is played and called in the post-season requires a four line team, depth d core and good goaltending. Added to that fact is the existence of one high end contract on a team salary immediately inflates the value of any player on that roster with similar or near similar stats to the point where you have a situation that four or five players are eating up way too much cap to roster a successful post-season team. Paying Bouchard in excess of what Nurse makes is just going to doom the Oilers going forward especially when they pay out McDavid. Their core is clearly fantastic ( and is an anomaly ) but even they are just too short to get over the top. Let Vegas pay Marner an obscene sum -- they are going to come to regret that down the line.

Hoping Blues stay away from these long term deals. Make the player stay hungry--earn it.
