This might be the Knights way of saying " thank you for your service ". With the last year of his contract in 2027, it could be convenient for both parties to not see Petro play the last two years of his contract. Would a team sign him at nearly 38 years old after a two year layoff?
He's not leaving 17 million on the table.

If he's unable to play ever again he'll just be placed on LTIR and sit at home for 2 years.

No doubt, and it could have been discussed during contract ( course that would be denied ) negotiations. If Petro does not play the contract was worth $12,320,000 per year and not the $8,800,000 for seven. Hats off to Petro and to Army as both did well with Petro's leaving.

It gives time for Boss to collect on Krug. He’s behind in his house payments.

Forever that realtor … Bossy

NO

He aged really well already.

Every body is talking about it.

Vegas needs to pay him that 17 mil

And Petro needs it.

He has triplets.

His point totals since leaving, 23, 44, 54, 33, 33, 0, and ? all that for 8.8 and paying him in FULL. No thanks.

That why Team Canada picked him twice and he led a team to a Cup … since leaving

Keep laughing. How much does Canada pay for picking someone? Vegas coughs up 8.8 against a salary cap. Now they asked him to have surgery, he'll be hanging with Krug, only making 2.3 million more. They paid him to win a Cup, he did. Now that he can't play up to his contract, they told him to [fork] off. He did.

I was thinking the same. Does this cost him a shot at it?

Ask me next April as to what I think of this out for the season angle but Vegas sure does have a lot of guys who suddenly are able to play at a high level once the playoffs start

I haven’t really paid attention to Vegas, what’s going on with him?
It’s part of their regular season rotational program. 2022 it was Eichel, 2023 it was Stone, etc…. It is just Petro’s turn to take the regular season off.

Per the Vegas HF boards, he is one of their worse signings. Average 36 points per season for a top tier paid defenseman. In 5 seasons with Vegas, he has finished outside the top 25 in the Norris voting every year but once and that was a 15th place. Blues got his best years and dropped his contract on Vegas. His HOF trajectory took a nose dive as he is not even one of the top 30 defensemen in the league. HOF caliber players are elite, it’s not the Hall of Average.

He helped them win the Cup. I wouldn’t be mad at that contract if we had gotten a 2nd with him.
