CT has a current love affair for Francona, who also has his team looking up at the Cards in the standings.
The blind hatred over anything Oli is pretty funny.
Re: Twitter lighting up Mike Shildt
Fans always get upset at the manager when the team is losing. It is also easy to get upset at the manager when he kills the bullpen. Shildt is a good manager. Everyone should remember how sloppy the defense was the last year of Matheny and how Shildt had that completely cleaned up by the following year.
Of course if the bullpen only has 3-4 reliable arms, it is inevitable they will wear out. Oli looks like a genius managing the bullpen now that he has O'Brien, Leahy, Romero, Matton, Helsley with Svanson, Matz and King also doing fine. Or was MO the genius for somehow getting 8 good bullpen arms in 1 year?

Not a fan but the rabid, irrational hatred is bizarre.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 20:29 pmCT has a current love affair for Francona, who also has his team looking up at the Cards in the standings.

Re: Twitter lighting up Mike Shildt
A perfect example right here- Shildt had nothing to do with our defence it was different players!!!!!!ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 20:45 pm Fans always get upset at the manager when the team is losing. Before this season, it wasn't "blind hatred."cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 20:29 pmCT has a current love affair for Francona, who also has his team looking up at the Cards in the standings.
The blind hatred over anything Oli is pretty funny.
It all began 2022 Game 1 against the Phils; pulling Quintana was idiotic. Then, trying to get 2 innings out of Helsley because of his earlier blunder when the guy had jammed a finger on his throwing hand just 3 days before was equally dumb. To make matters worse, when asked postgame, he said "everything went to script until that last inning." You can't script a regular season game, much less a playoff game.
He's made a terrible habit out of pulling starters too early when they're cruising, overusing BP arms, overplaying L/R matchups, subbing in ancient vets with small sample size history over hot hitters, and musical chairs with the lineup.
That hatred was well deserved. But I'll admit, he's either learned or changed or something because he's not making the same mistakes over and over again this season.
Sonny throwing a complete game and Libby pitching into the 7th would have never happened before this season. Overall, a fine job thus far.

In fairness, I think StL has a better roster than Cincy. And I admit, Marmol has done a better job this year. But each time my opinion begins to soften, he inevitably does something ignorant.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 20:29 pmCT has a current love affair for Francona, who also has his team looking up at the Cards in the standings.

This team would be even better without Marmol as manager. He costs us games consistently. He is an AWFUL manager. No in game feel whatsoever. None!

Sonny pitching a CG was only allowed because of an extremely low PC. If he was anywhere near 100, hed have yanked him faster than VSII gets down the line. He doesn't have the feel of a game to make decisions in the heat of the moment based on in-game factors. If it isn't pre-planned, he can’t handle it.

Re: Twitter lighting up Mike Shildt
He cleaned up the defense overnight. We played a much crisper, cleaner baseball the day he took over from Matheny. And for that I'll be forever thankful.ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025 20:45 pm Fans always get upset at the manager when the team is losing. How did Fedde get a 109 pitch CG shutout earlier this season?

Re: Twitter lighting up Mike Shildt
I'm a big Schiildty fan. Always have been. He goes into battle with the players that are available and says "We've got enough". He's not a back stabber. He' doesn't throw his players under the bus. He has their backs and tries to protect them. He needs to be because he's not exactly imposing. He's learned the game and has been successful at every level. . He got himself tossed by an ump ON PURPOSE showing he had Manny Machado's back. Not going crazy, but just cuz it was the right thing to do. And Machado is no walk in the park. My experience regarding his in game decisions and bull pen usage was it usually made sense and that he had a plan. Finally, when he was fired unceremoniously by the Cardinals after the 17 game winning streak season which got them into the playoffs, he thanked the Organization and went out with total class. Then, he took a lower position, worked his tail off, and moved himself up to be a manager again. And in an even tougher division. He's a really good manager. Continued success, Schildty, I WISH YOU NOTHING BUT THE BEST!
Re: Twitter lighting up Mike Shildt
The default setting on this forum is to despise all its managers while they are here. Well, except for St. Whitey, but even then only the delusional believe he would be beloved had this forum been around when he managed. It's laughable.
