Or they could go big and trade Walker and valuables to add a starting pitcher to replace Mikolas.
Yes at least add a reliever.
Alcantra just got rocked again after a few starts looking like he was coming back. Best move might be to feign interest and let the Cubs or Brewers pay premium.
Zac Gallen is not an answer either. Teams that are falling behind in the race are doing that for a reason. Hard pressed to find a decent starting pitcher that would actually be available at the deadline.
I think it's add a reliever. Maybe a bench bat if Walker can't go and show improvement. Otherwise stand pat.
It's definitely not "sell" right now. The players, manager and coaches have fought hard to be in the running right now. The FO has to at least honor that.
Playoff baseball in St. Louis in October.

They are making the buy/sell decision rather difficult.
I hope they trade Roby, Sagesse and Burlseon for a stud RFer. Could you survive such a turn of events?
I don't know why you would trade Burleson he's one of the best hitters on the team and he's improving on defense.
Corny is just trying to mess with me. Burleson ain't going anywhere this season. He's a stud hitter. Especially, against RHP. And he's getting better vs IHP.
Mo won't go all in. And he won't stand pat. He will half (donkey) the trade deadline. Probably acquire a soon-to-be free agent or old reliever and hope he finds a fountain of youth.
I think I make my decisions based on improving the team next year and beyond. For example can you really justify holding on to Helsley. I don’t think you want to make the financial commitment to sign him beyond this year. You have to maximize his value by trading him.
I don’t think this is a World Series team. That’s the goal and I’m making moves with that goal in mind. That means I’m selling any player on expiring contract I’m not willing to sign for 2026. I’m still trying to push Arenado out the door.
Never liked the “buy” vs. “sell” designations.
Cards should always be looking for opportunities to “improve”.
So they will be looking at any potential deals that present themselves.
Of course any pending FA’s figure to be front and center.

Could not agree more…
but the allure of a National League Central title seems to have lowered the bar for success with many of our friends…

How do you guarantee a WS built team? 30 club's want to know

It starts with three "lights out" starting pitchers.

You can’t….
However, a club can choose a path that is compatible with the status of their franchise.
Stl is not going to be able to free agent their way to a title….and they are not deep enough yet to trade their way…
Building from within is the best option…and that requires decisions looking forward more than three months..

You seem more obsessed with my posting than I am with Burleson, Saggese and Roby as players. By the way, Saggese has slid a little on my promotional efforts right mow.
Aww c’mon, don’t jump off the bandwagon now! Stand by your man, like Tammy Wynette!
I actually like Sagesse too. Don’t really care much about tracking prospects. Too much hype and too many busts to get my hopes up for. Then out of nowhere you get a Donovan or Pujols. So I just wait till they hit the bigs and see what they can do. Not enough time in the day.
Corn, do you consider Burleson "out of nowhere"? And, Saggese will be fine. I'm just a little disappointed in how tentative he's seemed at the plate since he's returned.
I did hear about him some before he came up, when he hit 30 homers at AAA and the PD wrote more on him. Now that he's here, I don't know what to make of him. I don't like bat-only guys, but numbers (and eye) says he's improved in RF and he does pretty good at first. He had me believing in the bat last year then fell off badly so waiting and watching this year.
He's kind of saved our butts lately, as much as I don't want to admit it, especially to you lol, glad he's doing his thing. I root for anyone wearing the jersey though and just wanna see a good playoff run. Been too long.
