I'd tell him "we're shopping you and if you don't waive the NTC, then it's bullpen or DFA".

Maybe some team would want him just for the innings.

Michael McGreevy is a way, way better option for those starts.

Mo thinks Mikolas is a "legacy" type Cardinal and he's NOT.

No special treatment, he either accepts a trade if some team wants him or pen'/DFA.

Enough of Mikolas :x
Giving Miles Mikolas a no trade clause was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen Mo do. Just mind blowing.

Team is 3-3 in those six, amazing, and he is 0-3 in those six, bailed out three times.

The game yesterday he was fine for the first 3 innings. In fact, really really great. Then, second time around the order he totally lost it. Should have been prepared. The bull pen, the pitching coaches, the manager, pitcher and catcher, the team. Needed to have a short leash. Absolutely figured this might have been a bull pen game, needed to be able to react accordingly. We didn't. We fell way behind. We were fortunate. We played well. We came back and we won it. Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good. This was one of those times. There's bound to be more situations like this. We've seen them before. We'll see them again, Act like it. Marmol, you look like a Boy Scout, BE PREPARED.

Giving him the extension (too early again!) was too.

TG Mo is gone very soon.

The reset move would be McGreevy. The win-now move would be swap him into long relief w/Matz.

Wish they’d pick one or the other.
If Mikolas is taken out of the rotation then he needs to be gone. He's not fit for the pen.
Agreed but Cards mgt won’t eat salaries. At least in long relief he’d be in games already out of hand in most cases. Maybe he’d be better in those less pressure situations. They can’t trade him for a bucket of balls either because of his high salary.

If he was pitching like he was a month ago someone might’ve bit at the trade deadline. Now Cards stuck with him.
In the BP they are essentially eating that contract. He'd only give them 40 ish innings
there. The optics to other players is cleaner though. Just switch him and Matz.

DFA is the better choice, they'd save a few hundred thousand.

I know you are saying DFA is the better choice (agree) but are you still saying switch him out with Matz because you know they won't DFA?

If so, that's my take as well. Mikolas might actually be useful in long relief. Overpaid, but at least useful.

killer bullpen is how cards won last world series. Leave Matz in the pen. Also keeps his value if they do trade him. If he sucks at starting after quickly being stretched out...waste of time and value.

You don't release him. He might sign with a rival and shut us down next meeting. Put him in the pen or invent an injury.

I'd say McGreevy is another #4 or #5 SP. so not a huge front of rotation ceiling.

But you can argue that Mikolas is not even that on an ML club. I'd say the same for Fedde.

McGreevy should be getting the look and runway.

Mathews should get a look but is recovering from injury. So maybe not this season. His projection is as a #3 according to some pundits.

The ace we want may not be in the system at this moment. Draft is coming in a few weeks. I would like to see Roby progress

McG has #3 potential (best case), #4/5 (worst case).

Agree no "Aces" in the system.

Dewitt will have to let Bloom either sign one (and that means upping the payroll) or acquire one via trade.

Best counterpoint so far. Could do more harm than good and Matz has thrived in the role. I also don’t typically support weakening one aspect of the team to improve another, like sacrificing defense for offense. This could be the same. But it doesn’t fit my argument so I don’t like it lol.

I would say it's time to lock Miles up long term. Crafty veteran who shouldn't take more than 5/$100m with a NTC to sign him and shore up our rotation. Let him retire a red bird and get his red jacket

Signed,

Mo

Just think of this….Mikolas is the only pitcher who gave up runs to the Guardians in that entire series. And he gave up 6 in 4 innings. It’s time to do SOMETHING Mo and Oli.

Can't put him in the pen is we are trying to win. This team might be able to come back when Mikolas has a bad start; if he blows up as mid inning relief, we don't have enough outs to come back from that.
