I don’t think this is a real rumor. I’d take a flyer on Dach but not give up legit assets for him. We have no use for Matheson at all. If there was any legitimacy to it, the rumor would have to involve Mailloux or Reinbacher headed our way.

Montreal really doesn't have anything that would make me want to move Kyrou that i think they'd reasonably consider.
I don't mind bringing Dach on board... but for Joseph or Texier, and maybe moving a someone in our depth chart of winger prospects thats maybe 4th or 5th best of the bunch. He clearly has not lived up to the expectations, i've got no interest in paying anything close to what they paid to get him originally. I am willing to take a flyer on him.
Agree, they don’t seem like a fit. And they don’t have a ton of cap space to fit Kyrou, even with the Carey Price LTIR money.
If they wanted to trade for Kyrou, I would have to ask for a strong package. Something like:
Kaiden Guhle, LHD 23 yrs old
Kirby Dach, C 24 yrs old
David Reinbacher, RHD 20 yrs old

I would do that deal except I want a different player other than Dach. Montreal would be getting the leading goal scorer on the Blues and an all star. There's no waiting on him. He's a plug and play first line player on Montreal.
In addition to Reinsbacher, I'll take Michael Hage, and either Mailloux or Guhle.

I’m saying it’s not a legit rumor, not that it doesn’t exist. That article is sourced from NHLTradeTalk.com, which isn’t anywhere of note, and only specifically references Pierre Lebrun mentioning it on TSN. But LeBrun didn’t give any names like Dach and Matheson. He said Montreal was one team that had shown interest. This article spins that into “trade talks continued late into the night” without any further source.
Fwiw, LeBrun also said teams aren’t really certain if Armstrong is even going to move him or just curious what offers might be out there.

Armstrong said any deals would be Apple for Apple. The Montreal rumors are Apple for moldy grape and rotten peach.
Is it? What’s the value for Kyrou right now around the league?

Well you have to make the playoffs before you can win them. For that alone Kyrou is worth more than a young oft injured struggling 3rd line center and a LHD that likely slots in 3rd on your left side and is only under contract for one more season and would not be in line for an 8 year extension, so the extra season would be meaningless.

That’s your belief though. I’m not sure what his value is, but he’s still somewhat of a gamble in many ways. And he’s expensive. And he’s a winger. It’s not like there is some huge bargaining war I’m sure.
There’s been controversy around him his well. That doesn’t help. I don’t see it as an ideal time. Guess we will find out.
Montreal has 2 RD prospects and just traded for a top pair big money RD, if we are talking to them its about those RD prospects.
No way in a rational scenario do the Blues trade valuable assets to Montreal and not bring home one of those RD prospects, personally I would go one further and say Reinbacher specifically has to be in the deal and I'd want more on top of that and if I'm out of line thats fine because I'm not that thrilled about it anyway.
IMO if we are talking seriously with Montreal its because those RD prospects are on the table and it makes sense they would be after the long term Dobson acquisition
Dach + Laine (25% retained by Montreal) = $9.9m of salary for next season
Montreal adds Reinbacher to the deal for the Blues paying 75% of Laine’s salary and trading away the best player in Kyrou.
Montreal would also need to include a 1st round draft pick or another prospect, receiving a lesser prospect in return.
If Dach’s medical into on his knee is ok, he fills the Blues’ void at middle 6 Center, and Reinbacher gets time to develop since the Blues have Faulk for 2 more years.
The Blues could let Laine leave in free agency after next season, and Dvorsky takes his spot in the top 9 forwards in the lineup.
If the Blues scouts like Reinbacher, I don’t think they’ll be able to do better as far as trading for a young 2nd pair RH defenseman.
This trade works for the salary cap and seems to fill both of the holes in the Blues roster (young top 6 Center and young top 4 right-handed defenseman). It also fills Kyrou’s place in the lineup until Dvorsky is ready for the NHL.
If Montreal retained the max 50% of Laine’s contract, the Blues could also fit Matheson under the salary cap, or the Blues could trade away Leddy in another deal since their salaries are less than $1m apart.
Even if Dach were healthy(which I'm far from convinced on), I don't want him.
He's terrible defensively, terrible on FO(36%), has poor on-ice vision and wasn't an overly great skater before the injuries(and I'm sure 2 knee surgeries hasn't done a lot to improve his mobility).
Even as a throw in, I wouldn't want him.
If Montreal wants Kyrou; the deal has to be Reinbacher, Hage and Evans IMO. I'm not pulling the trigger on anything less.

Watch the Canadiens a lot. Smart fanbase hates Dach, a good tell. We want absolutely nothing to do with him. This is a decent deal for Kyrou that weakens our ability to get into playoffs this year (without any other moves) but sets us up longterm. The problem with this deal is that Canadiens can't swing this from a cap perspective unless the offload somewhere else ( dach).
