With only three picks, the only way I think we trade it is to move back to pick up additional picks. I don’t see them trading up sacrificing more picks or trading out of the first round for a player leaving their later round pick as the top pick.

I have serious doubts the pick is traded.

But will there be some reluctance and overarching want to make the pick given the circumstances?
Without a doubt, Glaser in the powder room in barely more than a bikini handcuffs Army. The Blues have to make a pick so that she gets runway.

Just another reason to love Army. He gets us involved in all available sideshows (Glaser, Winter Classic, etc.)

This might well be the highest the Blues will draft for years.

Oddly silent on Hofer. Sense he is in play under the radar. If philly offers one of their firsts is he gone. And then you use their pick on Bear and 19 on Ravensbergen. Just wild speculation. Trade down in first as part of larger trade and then they take Brustiwiecz(sp).

Some mock drafts do have him sitting there at 19. Question for you, MN, & others. How does he compare to Dvorsky. Can you compare /contrast him for us?

I have Bear 10th on my board and would love him at 12 or 13 but I'd hate that pick at 6 given all the centers up top

I think they'll trade it. I'm taking the 2:1 odds that i just made up. I have a chance to double up my make believe betting money.

I want the highest available player on my list. I put time into this exact question. Who do I want if I have the first pick, who do I want if that guy is off the board, etc. So it has been ranked.

I would be very happy with Brzustevich. He is going to have such a big year next year. I would really be happy with anyone in my top 16, and there are some question marks on good players right after that.

I think they will take either Hensler or Cootes or Nesbitt

Reschny doesn’t share a lot of the same characteristics as Dvorsky but they’re both very skilled. Pretty different players actually. I see Reschny as being more stylistically similar to someone like Schwartz, Jarvis or even Thomas…I mean, he’s unlikely to reach Thomas levels but then again, nobody really thought Thomas would reach that level either when we drafted him 20th overall years ago.

But sticking to Dvorsky, they’re probably about equal in skill but Dvorsky has the way better shot and obviously the size advantage too. Dvorsky has also shown more physicality at lower levels but they’re both very very competitive. May even have to give Reschny the edge in competitiveness. Where Reschny shines is his hockey sense paired with his skills and work ethic. He’s a very very smart player. He’ll score a fair number of goals but he’s the type that’ll be racking up assists as he sees the ice so well. So pairing him with a shoot first type like Dvorsky or Snuggy would probably be a good fit actually.

He’s a bit better skater than Dvorsky but I wouldn’t call it a plus trait. He’s heading to North Dakota in the fall and I expect him to be one of the best freshman in the country. He’d be a steal at 19 IMO.

Hey thanks for taking the time to answer so completely. Really appreciate that. Just seems that there's going to be two or three quality prospects available at 19, that maybe a few weeks back, it didn't seem to be the case. If not a center/forward that's dropped a few slots, then a real good choice for a defensemen should be awaiting for us.

IF Cootes is there we should grab him and run IMO. A center (who shoots: right); played 1st P.P.; 1st P.K for Seattle. I know some here don't think much of Anthony Cirelli; but I really like the Cirelli comparisons. plus ran roughshod at the U18's for Canada (7gp 6gls 6a 12pts).

Scouts:

"3ins taller 15lbs heavier he's top five."

"He plays first PK, first PP, and he has excellent hands. He can pick up a puck in the neutral zone and move up swiftly down the wall and then go wide to the net. He can find players with accurate passes. He's one of those players who has it all with his skating, skill and sense."

that was via THN.

and

....with that being said; he's probably gone by #19 and I'm guessing we pick the Swed Milton Gastrin.

No problem.

A couple other things about Reschny I neglected to mention. He’s good/solid defensively (for 17/18 yr old standards. All 17/18 yr olds suck defensively by NHL standards but he shows he cares and has the brain to think ahead on plays and that’s usually a recipe for a solid two-way player down the line) and he’s good at faceoffs. He was among the WHL’s leaders in faceoff % at 55% while taking a ton of draws. Considering he was 17 and most of the top players are going to be 18 and 19, that’s notable to me. He’s a shade under 5’11”, 2 years younger and still was one of the best at faceoffs. Again, that shows a lot of skill and intelligence IMO.

But yes, he’s not the only option tonight. IMO, the draft is likely going to get pretty hard to predict after pick 10 or so. Could go lots of ways. I could see Reschny going as early as 12th or even into the early 20s. Same with guys like Hensler, Cootes etc. There’s like 16-17 guys I really like so just hoping we don’t get the nightmare scenario where all of them are gone before pick 19.

Mrsic? Reschny is way way better than Mrsic.

Mrsic has a very nice shot though. Like very nice. Can pick corners very well. But he’s small and plays small. Very much a perimeter player. He’s a very good Jr player but when I look at players that I think will make for good NHLers, I look for translatable skills. I see a lot of holes in Mrsic’s game and he plays a very Jr game. He’s going to have to really make some adjustments to become a solid pro.

That said, he was an excellent grab in the 4th round. He clearly has skill and that shot. He has another year of Jrs so hoping he can fill out his body some and work on rounding out his game before he turns pro in 2026-27.
