Even being a late pick its still a bust in my eyes.
The fact that Tolvanen never turned into the stud a lot of people were expecting made me feel a bit better about Kostin. He's obviously had a much better career, but I remember when the Blues made the move the buzz was that they knew they'd be able to get one or the other. Nashville took Tolvanen so we settled on Kostin.

Kostin has had multiple chances in the NHL, every year for the past four. It's not like the Blues completely whiffed, he just hasn't panned out as a 1st rounder (and almost certainly won't). He's only 26, he may not be done yet. Or, he might be a tweener/KHLer who fades away. To me he's a classic case of hockey sense not matching his physical attributes.

Well they didn't draft Paajarvi. They drafted Lindbohm in the sixth round. Jaskin is still 48th in his draft class in NHL games played and 49th in points despite going 41st overall and not playing in the NHL in three years.

But otherwise, those were great examples.
Lol, yep what a lame post, not even accurate, but alas:

WTF are you talking about Harold, the Blues gave him 189 games? Jaskin was worse, how does an organization give that kind of time for a player that clearly never belonged?

You'd have a HARD time finding a team that drafted better than the Blues in the Army era, and that includes Schwartz and Tarasenko.

Did the Blues draft Magnus Paajarvi? I recall him being drafted by Edmonton and the Blues taking a shot a recovering him.

Jaskin was unfortunate as they really tried too hard there. Jaskin did play with Washington and get a return shot in the NHL. Teams kept seeing something there.

Not saying the Blues draft perfectly, they still have more picks active in the NHL than any other team. I can post that article again.

The drafted Robert Thomas in that year and took Kostin as a long shot. Kostin just never had the head to go with the skills.
Magnus was one of the pieces that came back in the Perron deal.
Understood. The implication was he has something to do with how the Blues draft players. He doesn't at all. Maybe poor trad value for Perron. But Perron always seemed to be way undervalued for what he brought. Could be Blues fans just like Perron too much.
That particular deal was a salary dump so we could re-sign Petro. The next time we lost him in the Vegas draft, the third he overplayed his hand.
I liked him too, stuff happens.
Nah we signed Roy, didn't have to trade perron to sign petro. But we did end up with Barbs in that deal.

Well the calculus was we needed another center. It was a bad call since we literally ended up using Steen as a center as much as Roy that year, but we were pretty loaded at wing (Steen again, Oshie, Schwartz, Tarasenko, Stewart). They wanted somebody to replace Andy McDonald who had just retired because of concussions.
