Why don't the Blues make an offer for McDavid?

I don't know if it has been mentioned here but Kyrou has emerged in recent trade talks. So could Edmonton move McDavid? Both sides are probably open and that may be a understatement. Would the league allow Army to actually trade Kyrou to the Oilers for McJesus? I can see certain appeal on both sides but I guess other teams have fantasie as well. Yes, the no state income tax is important. But remember, players and entertainers have to pay city and state earnings tax for games played in other cities & states that have those taxes. Note, I'm am not entirely clear on all tax laws and residency requirements for every locale, nor with the calculations for the total amount of time in state when declared residency is elsewhere in addition to travel dates and away dates out of state. My point is, yes these guys want to maximize their income, but they also want to win. Because ultimately that experience enhances their earnings value as well.

For example, if he moved to a Florida team, especially Panthers that savings wouldn't be as much. The big houses cost more here in Florida, and property taxes are $$$$$ along with higher insurance costs, etc. To save a few hundred thousand a year would be absorbed with higher house cost or exceeded easily. Like not paying a Missouri, or lets say Georgia income tax since Atl is getting a team. He'd save more in Missouri because the houses are a lot cheaper in Missouri along with property taxes.

Like Petro moving to Vegas everyone talked about. The houses there cost more than Missouri. The income tax he saved again would be absorbed by paying a lot more for a house.

Everyone b*tches about Stl county property taxes lol. The taxes on my 2339 SQft house in Florida WITH homestead exemption is over $6300!!

I would like to see the Nlues make a run at him as well, but $20M/8yrs will be a lot to absorb.

Way too much to absorb for a small mid-market team with ownership that basically has shallow pockets relative to other owners.

That's a good point. Certainly true here in the Atlanta metro area exurbs where property costs and taxes are relatively low, especially to say California or Illinois (taxes).

McDavid cares about one thing- winning. The money and commitment will be there wherever he goes. The Blues actually are a team that I think he would consider. Armstrong as Canada GM I am sure has a relationship with him. Binny and Parayko playing with him on team Canada, I am sure he would like. And the team has cap space coming and a lot of depth and a quickly ascending team. It is not out of the realm of possibility. However, Edmonton cannot deal him. It would devastate the fan base. They are going to do their damndest to put a team around him for another run and pray he re signs. The hope is he quietly asks for a deal, but it does not appear to be the case. Now, next season we could make a move if we keep flexibility. If we do deal for and extend Dobson, that will make that more difficult, but you cannot plan on hoping someone makes it to free agency next season. I would call Edmonton still. They will want Thomas in a deal, but I wouldnt deal him straight up for McDavid due to the value of the contract to production you have in him. I would say, if you do have to trade him- we got Kyrou, Hofer, Dvorsky, Jiricek and two firsts for ya. I doubt you see many offers at that level, but I doubt even more that he is traded unless it is right before he hits free agency next season.

That's too much, even for McDavid. If Hofer, Dvorsky, & Jiricek play well next season we are good to go for a long time.

But I don't see it. The Blues present plan doesn't have a 18-20 mil loop hole in it and the second point is it's a pretty good plan by itself.

As great a player he is it's clear he's not an automatic anything. Personally I think he stays in EDM.
