Why don't the Blues make an offer for McDavid?

Post by bigtimegoal »

Not understanding this. Would be the biggest star since Brett Hull, even overshadowing him historically. Mctavish would likely finish his career here unless he plays into his 40s.

Willing to bet that he will land in a no income tax state

Oh, perhaps, just maybe, the Blues would prefer to sniff some resemblance of a team with depth.

Yes, the former Oiler Craig MacTavish always wanted to retire a Blue.

Or maybe, just maybe, McDavid would prefer to take his talents if not to South Beach, then certainly to a sure Cup contender.

You can still have depth with elite high paid players. Lots of teams do.

The isn’t happening though obviously

Sure, but assuming his contract will be as high as rumored and speculated, they wouldnt have nearly as much depth with him. It’s not like Id be completely against havin him, Id just prefer a different path to the Cup that includes more depth. And McDavid doesnt ensure a Cup, as has been proven so far to date.

Let's see...

Parayko, Thomas, Kyrou, Dvorsky, and a 1st+

for

McDavid (extended), Hyman, and Bouchard

.... because, for the money it involves, they want a player who successfully leads in the Stanley Cup!!!

They would need to gut too much of the team to get Edmonton to do it. They wouldn’t be able to put a deep team around him.

Curious what you would offer.

Bees! Fun fact, Edmonton got the 82d overall pick from us in 2017 as part of the return for Bees, and they traded it with a 5th rounder to move up 4 spots to 78 and grab Stuart Skinner.

I would like to see the Nlues make a run at him as well, but $20M/8yrs will be a lot to absorb.

Way too much to absorb for a small mid-market team with ownership that basically has shallow pockets relative to other owners.
