As for never making that big splash, well it shows. We saved all this money for a reason. My thoughts it to spend on two big names. If saving the money for any other reason, wrong move.
There was never a plan to spend that money on the back side, they're just permanently lowering payroll going forward and they needed to sell it to fans in a way that wouldn't cause a revolt (they only partially succeeded).
The Cardinals with Kyle Tucker.

Guess you've never run a business. Good business people "project" forward, and with the media situation and a possible strike looming the owners of the Cardinals are being cautious, as they should be.3dender wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 08:59 amI know billionaires... you've even admitted they're not planning to spend more money, so we agree on that at least. We all know Bill DeWallet will never, ever spend what it would take to sign an elite free agent.

I didn't believe those excuses when the owners themselves said it, so why would I believe it when you parrot them?Cranny wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 09:04 amGuess you've never run a business. They just wanted to lower payroll because they see how expensive contracts are getting. They looked for a way to explain it to fans so that a decent chunk of them would swallow it. Fans like you obliged, fans like me didn't. That's literally all there is to it.
Re: The Cardinals with Kyle Tucker.
I would love to have Tucker. He seems to be one of those difference maker players. That being said, I don't see the penny pinching Dewitt's springing for one of the highest contracts in baseball, which I think Tucker is headed for. I think the Cubs hoped that he would fall in love with the city and take a discount, sort of like the Cards have done with some players, but I don't know if Tucker is that way. Usually it's always about the money. Imagine him in the 3 hole. It would really deepen the lineup.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 07:51 am Good morning.
Just a signing away.
Team would trade away Walker, Matz, Mik, and Helmsley and outfield will be Tucker Scott and Burleson.
Infield Willy Donovan Winn Nado. Pages at catcher. Gorman and Herrera at DH.
Staff
Gray
Libby
Pallante
Mcg
Young gun.
Closer- maton or granillo.
That completes year two of reset.

That’s the over arching point- really deepen the lineup. You make this happen. Money.CCard wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 09:54 amI would love to have Tucker. Money. Give it back. Keep your hands off my stack.
Re: The Cardinals with Kyle Tucker.
I like the Tucker possibility, I'm saying that up front.
That being said, I don't see any big, out-of-house signings before the huge labor obstacle is solved in 2027. I never expect the big signings in a normal setting, that's not our makeup.
We could do an inhouse signing or two this offseason, but that's about it.

Cardinals don't have the money to sign Tucker. TV deal is poor. Attendance down.

I think they get it, we just love to live in the moment and dream as fans. This is a special time, one we haven't seen in a long while. Team reconstruction. I actually like doing it...playing GM. I'm not good at it, but I still dream.Cranny wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 10:32 amThank you, craviduce. Some posters just don't get it. Ok I hear all the - it won’t happens.
True. It won’t.
And we will- waste a great opportunity to jump instantly into contention; waste a good team needing just a couple pieces, and an opportunity to land a much needed face to team type player.
I’d bet other GMs would love to sit in our seat.

Re: The Cardinals with Kyle Tucker.
And look at the current attendance. Would a Tucker signing change the trend back up to what it used to be? Would a Tucker signing make the difference in winning a WS or not? What kind of financial difference would that make?sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 10:40 am Ok I hear all the - it won’t happens.

Most these Billionaires are heirs of a risk taking person in their background. Now they have generational wealth that can be managed so you can both maintain and build on your wealth, while also taking on some risks.
I run a business, and only because I took on much risk/debt when I was young. It's not as big a deal if I remain conservative with it, as I don't have millions of fans around the Country with an interest in it. Running the Cardinals is leap years different as millions of fans are engaged with how the team does. The city has a big interest in how the Cards do. It does better when the Cards do better. Some engagements break away if they lose interest with the perception the owners aren't even trying to win it all.
Attendance numbers seem to indicate there's already been some erosion with the fan base. Should that be ignored?
