I thought w/the scrubs in town even the heat wouldn't keep the crowd down.
Not sure how it looked to you on TV but I'd bet less than 20,000 actually there.

Lower stadium and BPV revenue will likely cause the DeWitts to spend less in the short run. That's why it's critically important for Bloom to succeed in revamping the development program in the minors. Develop players who generate excitement, fans will start to return, then the DeWitts could feel freer to spend more. It will take several years though.Goldfan wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 08:19 amThis is on BDW. If they had a real bat(like Tucker) in OF and perhaps another top starter with a Francona/Bochy in the dugout this a different situationMort Gage wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 08:16 amTrue it was a hot one, but the overall trend has to terrify the DeWitts. Last year they averaged 35,500 announced, 2.9mm on the season. That was the first non-pandemic year since 2003 they did not reach three million. This year they are only announcing 30,000 per game. It looks close whether they will clear 2.5mm on the year.

OF course it does. NBA and NHL indoor climate controlled environment. NFL weather is usually wonderful in October and November, and 10 of 30 NFL stadiums are enclosed anyway. Yes, Green Bay is brutally cold in winter, but it's the only game in town.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 08:16 amI did think of smaller arenas. Especially hockey. Does environment have any effects.12xu wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 08:14 amNot all that mysterious. NBA and NHL play in indoor arenas which do not seat anywhere near 27K. They play half the number of games MLB plays. The NFL plays 17 games per regular season.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 07:18 amWonder why. All the other major sports seem to have little trouble filling their arena.Goldfan wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 07:16 amSo 27K announced?? For the 1st place Cubbies WITH Chicago folks in town?? BDW/MO/III have royally screwed their Golden Goose into the ground. Only a big name player, big name manager, or dominate 100 win type team will fix this…..fans have checked outMort Gage wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 06:09 amOnly 27,000 announced for their archrival. We can remove kids in school and cold temps from the possible reasons. Now it looks like some combination of the fans still not believing in this year's team, and economic anxiety in a region that isn't particularly wealthy to begin with. Anyone anticipating a payroll bump in the next 2-3 years will likely be disappointed.

And yet they managed to draw well over 3mil in 2012……it ain’t the heat. There were whole mid tier sections empty last night. Against the Cubs fighting for 1st place. SADJDW wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 08:02 am So in 2012, went to a couple games when one of those days the actual high temp was 112 if I remember right. You'd look at the outside temp your vehicle shows and would assume it was wrong until you heard on the radio that it's instead spot on, lol.
Another was a Sunday afternoon game (girl scouts day) when our younger daughter was in girl scouts. Both were somewhat miserable, although I'm pretty acclimated to summer heat, but for most that isn't the case, and the trend looks to continue to be hotter and for more extreme weather events moving forward.
Another reason new stadium MLB construction needs to incorporate a retractable roof, with the ability to control the indoor temp reasonably, while not forgetting the World Series now includes the possibility of November baseball.
Yeah, I'm surprised. Really thought the Cards would see bigtime attendance for this series.Goldfan wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 08:09 amAnd yet they managed to draw well over 3mil in 2012……it ain’t the heat. This is the new reality. Poor TV deal. Lower attendance. The reason we are competing this year is because we have the lowest injured payroll in MLB.

Shady and his sock are playing the lamest game of good cop/bad cop I've seen. Shady positions himself on the high road, claiming only to want to discuss baseball. This new sock, who just so happens to agree with Shady on every thread he starts, lobs the insults. Pathetic.Adam2 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 10:49 amLol, you insulting people. shockerHonky Tonk Man wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 07:53 amThank you Mr. ObviousMort Gage wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 08:29 amLower stadium and BPV revenue will likely cause the DeWitts to spend less in the short run. People flying, taking cruises, vacationing, restaurants packed…….I don’t think its the economy. BDW/MO (upset) thousands of hard core fans AND most of those fans are the over 50 crew…..so that group isn’t going and unfortunately I don’t think under 40 crowd cares as much about baseball as us AARP card crew….good luck getting it back. The short sighted BDW cheapness might have permanently screwed his long term revenueJDW wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 08:18 amYeah, I'm surprised. Once you lose them, not easy to rehook, maybe kinda like fishing.
Maybe there's some worries with the economy direction, IDK.
