Don’t Overlook Burleson’s Defense Last Night
He made two outstanding catches last night.
Re: Don’t Overlook Burleson’s Defense Last Night
Kind of funny how Ricky called Pages slow, sprint speed 25.5'/sec., while characterizing Burleson as faster than many think, sprint speed 25.0'/sec.
Anyway, Burleson playing RF pretty neutral so far, which is an improvement.
Re: Don’t Overlook Burleson’s Defense Last Night
Hes really not. He still ranks 454 out if 484 players in slrint speed this year. I feel like any time a slow guy beats out a grounder or makes a catch people start spreading narrative they actually can run for their size but he really cant. Pedro pages nolan arenado and luken baker still have faster sprint speeds this year. At25 0 ft per second, the only cardinal hes faster than is pozo.
He does actually run unlike yadier molina who would log ridiculously slow times like 23 as a result, and his form looks smoother than arenado who legitimately does not know how to run- its kinda puzzling how arenado made it to this age without ever being taught running form. But make no mjstake- burleson aint fast. Far from it.
Re: Don’t Overlook Burleson’s Defense Last Night
What’s impressive is his spirit and desire to win.

Burleson is turning into a pretty good player
Re: Don’t Overlook Burleson’s Defense Last Night
Currently has played himself into a starting role with his great June, and now tied for 7th on the Cards team for bWAR among position players.
Can he maintain this for the entire season is now the question.
Re: Don’t Overlook Burleson’s Defense Last Night
Burleson can survive in the outfield for a couple years if he hits like this but ultimately probably moves to 1b when contreras is gone. Hes good at his reads and when he gets tothe ball but range will always be his limitation due to speed and likely gets worse with age. But he can still play there for a few years til 1b opens up. Walker still is shaky in the field despite his speed but worse just cant hit at all.

Re: Don’t Overlook Burleson’s Defense Last Night
I knew those nets would come in handy, landed a Bison last night.
But seriously, great play!
He's outplaying J. Walker in RF defensively and of course miles ahead of him at the plate.
Walker's days here are numbered unless he really turns it around.
As we sit today, I have no problem w/Burly being the 2026 OD right fielder which is something I never thought I'd be thinking.
Heck, I had him traded mid season just a month ago.

Don't waste your time citing numbers, even his second-half cliff dives. There is NO cure for Burly fever.Wattage wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 07:30 amHes really not. We can't just acknowledge he finally had a good game defensively and having a nice run at the plate. He is now FAST, and an unstoppable hitting machine. He just has that face and midwest charm I guess.

If he can actually keep up the hitting and keep improving on defense, I might even catch a little Burly fever myself. Loving his work in this series. Can't stand Cubs.

No he is not a good fielder at all due to lacl of range.
He is very slow and has trouble cutting balls off before it reaches wall.
He's a DH, not an outfielder

That's weird, Dawg, since he was named ACC baseball Scholar-Athlete of the year. As well as coSIDA 1st team Academic All American honors.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 08:44 amHe looks and sounds like a Bubba.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025 08:42 amDon't waste your time citing numbers, even his second-half cliff dives.
