Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
Knew it was coming, but still hard to swallow.
Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
I hope DB42 goes to the ceremony and pulls a Will Smith.

OK, I'll bite: Wakey, Wakey??? I wasn't in St. Louis. Was there something involving him (whomever) and David Backes?

Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
Brent Seabrook hit Backes during the playoffs and knocked him out and new HOFer Duncan Keith mockingly said “wakey wakey” to him in the aftermath when he was clearly in a daze. Seabrook got a couple games for the hit (elbow to the head).Pink Freud wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 20:01 pm OK, I'll bite: Wakey, Wakey??? I wasn't in St. Louis. Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
It was a vicious predatory hit by Seabrook and the Hawks fans made an equally disgusting play by creating t-shirts with the now infamous Duncan Keith quote. That hit definitely played a part in the subsequent concussion problems later in Backes' career. I've watched that replay a hundred times and I honestly don't know how it didn't kill him. He's extremely lucky that he's not a vegetable today. Absolutely brutal!

I know who did what. But Seabrook ain't getting in the Hall, so....BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 19:51 pmBecause he said something mean during a playoff hockey game...? Do you realize that he didn't deliver the hit...?
If someone assaulted your momma or your wife and I made a joke about it to your face, I suppose you are handing me a comedy award?

Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
Actually according to Backes, what caused him to miss time that series was that he had a seriously broken toe that got exacerbated on the hit, rather than any lingering issues with the head.danno wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 20:29 pm It was a vicious predatory hit by Seabrook and the Hawks fans made an equally disgusting play by creating t-shirts with the now infamous Duncan Keith quote. (Not sure I buy that, lol, but it’s what he said on Cam & Strick)
Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
May be a Hall of Fame defenseman, but Duncan Keith will always be a piece of sh*t in my mind for what he said to Backes after that hit. Besides that situation, he was a scumbag in general with his dirty play on the ice.

Well I didn't need to watch that again.bluetunehead wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 20:15 pmBrent Seabrook hit Backes during the playoffs and knocked him out and new HOFer Duncan Keith mockingly said “wakey wakey” to him in the aftermath when he was clearly in a daze. The worst is hearing Eddie O try to justify it, effin homer. Just an awful display of sportsmanship by Keith.
I've always admired Steen after that. A competitive guy with common sense.
Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
If I remember right, during the 2016 playoffs against the Hawks, the camera caught Steener performing a vasectomy with his stick.somni wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 21:18 pmWell I didn't need to watch that again.bluetunehead wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 20:15 pmBrent Seabrook hit Backes during the playoffs and knocked him out and new HOFer Duncan Keith mockingly said “wakey wakey” to him in the aftermath when he was clearly in a daze. Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
Lol I had the same thought about Olczyk. He keeps talking about how Seabrook didn’t leave his feet as though that made it clean, while the rest of the crew immediately point out it was a blatantly illegal headshot.somni wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 21:18 pmWell I didn't need to watch that again.bluetunehead wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 20:15 pmBrent Seabrook hit Backes during the playoffs and knocked him out and new HOFer Duncan Keith mockingly said “wakey wakey” to him in the aftermath when he was clearly in a daze. He’s a good commentator if he’s not doing Hawks games. He just can’t hide how much of a homer he is for them.

You are exactly right. A gutless, idiotic joke.leedog68 wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 20:36 pmI know who did what. One could question whether or not Seabrook intended to potentially seriously injure...who knows what someone else's thoughts are in a split second heat of battle? But Keith is akin to someone in the security of a mob throwing rocks while the cameras are rolling, knowing that the Guards won't retaliate because of the modern retribution for doing so. It's about mutual respect. Yes they play very hard, yes they chirp one another. But at the end they line up and shake hands.
Keith was over the line.
Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
One of the most disgusting displays I've witnessed in sports. Taunting a clearly injured player while he's down and out. Completely classless.

Re: Wakey, Wakey into the Hall
His own coach thought he was too fragile to hear about their employee touching their teammate and also still be able to win, so I assume that's correct
