1. Market size has nothing to do with it. How many great baseball fans live in huge populated cities like Shanghai, Delhi India or Dhahka Bangladesh? Southern California also has 3 team to compensate for that, 4 if you count Las Vegas coming soon. The Dodgers have to share that market with lots of other leagues and teams also. How many pro sports teams in LA? A dozen?desertrat23 wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 17:28 pm1. "Lead the league in attendance and might get 4 million this year. That's with the highest average ticket prices in the MLB." Having the #2 market in the country helps with that.Ike Hammett wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 17:16 pmIt's fairly obvious, Dodgers lead the league in attendance and might get 4 million this year. That's with the highest average ticket prices in the MLB. They have a much greater knowledge of the game, their area produces the most players by far, they have the most fun enjoying the game, support their club to an almost limitless level of spending and ability to get any players they want and players want to play there etc. Southern California is baseball crazy, all three of their teams beat the Cardinals in attendance. Padres are top 3 and the Angels are 11th but usually top 10.desertrat23 wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 16:46 pmYou think they’re the best fans in baseball? The question should be more like what doesn't make them the best?
2. "They have a much greater knowledge of the game." Based on what? Just an opinion?
3. "Their area produces the most players by far." Again, second-largest market in the country will help.
4. "They have the most fun enjoying the game." What the hell does that mean? Based on what? Just another opinion?
5. "...support their club to an almost limitless level of spending and ability to get any players they want and players want to play there etc. Southern California is baseball crazy, all three of their teams beat the Cardinals in attendance. Padres are top 3 and the Angels are 11th but usually top 10." Again, market size.
So to sum up, your argument is "Biggest=Best." Got it.
2 Of course the Dodgers fans have a great knowledge of the game, how do you think the team has been so successful and is so well supported? They understand and have the knowledge to be top teir, produce the best results and have the best model, winner of the model franchise award.
3. Kids play baseball in Southern California, part of it is the great weather also, but already covered in number 1. But another reason they have the most knowledgeable fans, those fans all played at some level and get what's going on.
4. If they are playing the game, going to the games, paying big bucks to be entertained by the game obviously they are having the most fun with it. Why else are they doing it?
5. Again, there are multiple teams and multiple leagues, why do the Dodgers stand out so much? Because their fans are the most passionate, care the most, are the most knowledgeable and have the most fun etc.
When you look at the size and how many states and people the region a team can draw from without competitors, Cardinals base is probably bigger than the Dodgers. So biggest doesn't equal best.
