That said, I hope the Cardinals are not gun shy about taking Eli Willits if he’s there at #5. If you believe in the player and trust your development team, you can’t back away from a high school player merely because of the risk. Some have Willits as the guy with highest upside in this draft.craviduce wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 13:09 pmyeah, he was demoted.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 13:07 pm FCL Cardinals are playing the FCL Nats today. Starting in CF for the Nats is Elijah Green, the #5 overall pick in 2022. He’s not there on rehab.
He began the year in A+ and struck out 64 times in 35 games (140 PA). Last year he struck out 206 times in 106 games in A ball.
Good lesson to heed....there's a very real risk taking a HS player at #5 in the draft.
He can't hit his way out of a paper bag. He shouldn't have been in High A this season. I think the Nats went with Sink or Swim approach with him....and he was headed towards the bottom of the ocean.

everything you said is true. Risk and Reward...sometimes they work well with each other, sometimes they really bite you in the (bleep).peterman'srealitytour wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 14:59 pmThat said, I hope the Cardinals are not gun shy about taking Eli Willits if he’s there at #5. Willits is in my Top 3...ironically, they're all HS players ...Holliday and Hernandez are the other two

I am sorry Paniagua didn't work out. Goes to show that you can't pin many hopes on a very young arm.craviduce wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 12:45 pm The farm will go hungry....No More BREAD AND WATER![]()

1B/OF Matt Lloyd (AAA) has been activated from the 7-day IL.
OF Jose Cordoba (A) & INF Christian Martin (A) have begun an injury rehab assignment with the FCL Cardinals.
RHP Inohan Paniagua (A+) has been given his unconditional release.
-----------------------
Paniagua was part of the deep IFA class of 2017, that started in the DSL in 2018.... Darlin Moquete, Dionys Rodriguez, Freddie Pacheco, Ramon Mendoza, etc.
Paniagua was injured on opening day vs. his first batter....ruled out for the season. It was probably a mutual decision.
Best of luck, Inohan!!!

Re: Minor League Updates (6/24) ~ Cards System
I just have such a hard time buying into that theory personally. I am more and more coming around to the philosophy that a team should only draft college players for the first 3 rounds at least, maybe even 5. You need players that can help the team within a 3 to 5 year window from the time of drafting. Ages 18 to 22 are just such critical years for a young man's development from high school and mom's house to the real world. Girls, friends and clinger influences all play major roles in their outlook and perseverance for the end goal. Learning who to trust and who not to. Figuring out if they really have the talent and drive to be a major league ball player or not. You draft an 18 year old kid and give him a million + signing bonus, stuff is bound to happen. Not in a good way either. There is no struggle to be successful. No drive to work past life lessons because you have a nest egg to fall back on. At least a college kid has had advanced competition and advanced coaching. Had to eat a few ramen meals to make ends meet. They have worked out some of the bad stuff from their system and you know they are hungry to get to the next level. There are just so many more success stories of guys being picked in the later rounds and going on to be superstars, or Players that were picked as HS'ers and elected to go to college.peterman'srealitytour wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 14:59 pmThat said, I hope the Cardinals are not gun shy about taking Eli Willits if he’s there at #5. Just go with what you can see and feel as a player ready to step up to the next level than someone that may or may not be good in 6 years. Just my two cents.

I'm shocked at how Raniel Rodriguez has fallen from a cliff.
He was .373/.513/.831/1.343 in 59 ABs at FCL with 7 HR
He is .167/.231/.300/.531 in 60 ABs at Palm Beach with 1 HR (and in 2024 was .345/.462/.683/1.145 in 142 ABs at Dominican league with 10 HRs).
Re: Minor League Updates (6/24) ~ Cards System
he was going to struggle eventually. I guess this is his roadblock...how does the young 18yo respond?
