I thought Tommy Edman would steal a lot of bases after that half-year with 20 in 2022. He certainly has the speed. He got 10 more in the second half of that year and dropped a bit to 27 in 2023.
His 6 SBs in 2024 was due to an injury-year.
He only has 3 SB this year. His OBP this year is only .292, so that's some of it.
All of his baserunning stats on Statcast are down, including an avg lead distance of 4.9 in his first four years that has been down to 3.9 and 3.6 the past two years, so it's as if he's not trying anymore.

The guy I pray could replace VSII in CF - Josh Baez - has 26 steals in the first half this year: 6 at AA and 20 at A+ in only 210 ABs -only 72 times at 1b by single or walk. And he's been successful around 86% the last 2 years (elite).
In other words, if he's not hitting HRs (10), doubles (14) or triples (2), he's off and running.

He's been a stealing demon ever since he started out of HS.
He had 29 SBs in 2024 in only 270ABs and 30 SBs in 2023 (in 298 ABs) and 10 in 2022 (in only 110 ABs).
Oh yeah, and he's a big dude with power.

It’d be great if he could play CF at the MLB level. I would be cautious with putting so much into SBs in the minors though. VS2 had what like 100 and Winn had 32 and 43 his first 2 years in the minors with only 5 caught stealing each year and has struggled to even get 10 in the MLB. Catchers and pitchers are a different animal at the MLB level than the minors.

His sprint speed is still a strong 28.5 ft/s… good enough he could be piling up SBs, with his instincts. It looks like the Dodgers have just dialed back their running game. Last season they were stealing 0.84 bases per game. So far this year, it’s 0.56.

Yeah. Edman is one of those guys who is a gamer. I was sad to see him go.

That being said, his overall offensive numbers are not impressive. His OPS+ this year is 105 and his career OPS+ is 100. He's very average overall offensively. His early power numbers this season have disappeared. He's hitting 0.248 with a 0.292 OBP. That's pretty bad, but not too far under his unimpressive 0.315 OBP career average.
Take away his 30 SB potential and his offense is below standard.
His glove is BY FAR his best attribute.

I really like Edman and root for him! But, a 5-year and $74mil contract is a bit rich for his overall production. We've got cheaper talent with great gloves and similar offense.

Agreed. But with his size, arm and power - it's a very nice addition.
I'm certainly not putting him in the Scott category, but I think he's a better stolen base guy than Winn.
Minors = Winn = 92 SBs in 1499 PAs and Baez 100 SBs in 1144.

PS - I am dumbfounded that Winn a) doesn't steal more and b) has been caught 6 out of 11 attempts this year.

Lou's lifetime OPS (which was not a thing when he played) was .753. But if you add net stolen bases to his total bases count, his OPS would have been .814.
