I think he's forcing the Cardinals to re-think RF where he's outplaying Walker and vastly outhitting him.

I've been saying Bloom has absolutely no ties to Gorman/Walker since they were not drafted on his watch, they're on Mo's resume.Honky Tonk Man wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 10:01 amI would really like to know how C Bloom feels about this roster, and his true thoughts on Walker and Gormanrockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 09:53 am .307* .344 .474 .818

This gives him the freedom to 1) see if he can get them to their potential or 2) move on from one or both this offseason if he thinks he can't.
Either way, if Burly keeps this up and doesn't fall off like he did in 2024, then he's making a statement that he's a candidate for the RF job in 2024.

Re: A good article on Burleson
I agree about Burleson, and you make a good point about Bloom having no ties to Walker and Gorman so I think he will trade one or both this offseason. With a few adjustments to this 40 man roster this team could get better quick.rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 10:04 amI've been saying Bloom has absolutely no ties to Gorman/Walker since they were not drafted on his watch, they're on Mo's resume.Honky Tonk Man wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 10:01 amI would really like to know how C Bloom feels about this roster, and his true thoughts on Walker and Gormanrockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 09:53 am .307* .344 .474 .818

While all the results aren't showing up, yet... there are meaningful process improvements from Gorman.
2024 chase rate: 30.4% (36th percentile)
2025 chase rate: 23.9% (73rd percentile)
2024 walk rate: 8.5% (56th percentile)
2025 walk rate: 13.2% (90th percentile)
2024 zone contact rate: 74.0% (18.5% swinging strike rate)
2025 zone contact rate: 81.2% (13.0% swinging strike rate)
I think we're really close to seeing Gorman put up some fun numbers and he can be a beast as a strong side platoon facing basically only RHP. He's slashing .250/.361/.538 in June (.899 OPS / 151 wRC+). His barrel rate was elite last year (98th percentile). If he can combine all the plate discipline gains and find that quality of contact... well, he turns into the lefty slugger they've dreamed on.
Walker has gone backwards in chase rate, zone contact rate, and swinging strike rate. They've force fed him to the majors. As hard as it is, he really needs to go back to AAA and work on real player development stuff. He's still just 23... but he needs a rework.
The ONLY thing that Walker does well right now is swing the bat hard - bat speed is 99th percentile. The rest is ugly:
Squared up: 1st percentile
Whiff rate: 1st percentile
K-rate: 2nd percentile
Chase rate: 16th percentile
He's a complete mess. Burleson should be a starting corner OF - he's earned it and his profile is pretty much the opposite of Walker's:
Squared up: 94th percentile
Whiff rate: 88th percentile
K-rate: 92nd percentile
Chase rate: 32nd percentile
If Burleson EVER becomes a little more selective, he could be a .300 / 25-30 HR everyday corner OF.

And J.J.W. is rocketing through the system, should be in AAA real soon.
Re: A good article on Burleson
Agreed on all fronts at this point. Sadly Walker looks like he’s going the Jo Adell path. Question at this point is do you send him down for half a seasons work in AAA and use his final option or do you try to wait until next year and get the full year’s worth of option? An Old Friend wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 10:23 amI would have to believe that Bloom is likely immensely more bullish on Gorman than Walker.Honky Tonk Man wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 10:01 amI would really like to know how C Bloom feels about this roster, and his true thoughts on Walker and Gormanrockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 09:53 am .307* .344 .474 .818

I think the big guy figured some things out and has arrived, he seems to have improved markedly against lefthanded pitching if this continues he may win a batting title or 2An Old Friend wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 10:23 amI would have to believe that Bloom is likely immensely more bullish on Gorman than Walker.Honky Tonk Man wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 10:01 amI would really like to know how C Bloom feels about this roster, and his true thoughts on Walker and Gormanrockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 09:53 am .307* .344 .474 .818
