A good example of a DH that wasn't that complete of a ball player was Big Papi for Boston. He almost single-handedly destroyed the Redbirds in what was it '04? And now is a HOFer. He's an icon in Boston and by all accounts genuinely a terrific guy. But if you'll remember, in that series, everything he hit was a frozen rope. Even the foul balls. It just proves the point that not everyone that is using (allegedly) is a jag. And sure, there is a place for the DH. In my opinion that is the American League. Lastly, let me just add that at least Big Mac had the class to retire leaving $10 million per on the table. I would have been spending every day in the trainer's room and dragging my hurting (donkey) out there hitting home runs on one leg until I collected every last dollar I had on my contract. Oh well, there I go rambling again, like the narrator in "The Big Lebowski". You got any of that good sasparilla?
Big Papi was also a roid boy. The let him in but not Rose.
Rose broke the absolute cardinal rule of MLB. The sign prohibiting gambling on the game is in every clubhouse in multiple places and languages. Rose thought the rules didn't apply to him, lied about his gambling for years, even lied about betting on games in which he was involved when he initially admitted to gambling. He shouldn't be in, EVER.

Ortiz only ever tested positive in the "survey" test in 2003 - a test just for MLB and the player's association to see how widespread PED use was.

True but roids determined the outcome of thousands of games and several world series champions. None of those guys should be in the HOF nor should their stats be recognized.

Sure, but he didn't fail a test other than that "survey" test. There was no testing prior to that, and mandatory testing with penalties didn't start 'til 2004.

In case you're missing the point again, you're comparing apples to crankshafts.

Cubbie announcers were surprised by the sparse crowd tonight. Loads of empty seats as cameras panned the ballpark.

Remarked that attendance of 30,000 per game was down 10,000 per game from 2 years ago. Is that correct?

Yes. 40K+ paid per game in 2023. No shows noticeably increased as the 2023 worst losing season since 1995 progressed.

Only 27,000 announced for their archrival. We can remove kids in school and cold temps from the possible reasons. Now it looks like some combination of the fans still not believing in this year's team, and economic anxiety in a region that isn't particularly wealthy to begin with. Anyone anticipating a payroll bump in the next 2-3 years will likely be disappointed.

Your last paragraph is a complete opinion. Not one game and especially no championships were ever determined by steroids. Barry Bonds not being in the HOF doesn’t change the fact that he was the greatest hitter since Ted Williams.
