The question for Anaheim should be why bother moving a 24-year-old with high-end offensive upside and (dampened) star power if the return is a decent fourth-line center, the 45th pick in one draft and a fourth-rounder from another?
For what they got back I am surprised Armstrong was not in on a deal like this.

Don’t think the Blues would be interested in a reclamation project winger tbh.stanw wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 22:26 pm The question for Anaheim should be why bother moving a 24-year-old with high-end offensive upside and (dampened) star power if the return is a decent fourth-line center, the 45th pick in one draft and a fourth-rounder from another?

Re: Ducks cut bait on Trevor Zegras
the only way the blues would've gotten involved is if they could've shed some other meh contracts in the process. He's an interesting scoring threat, but doesn't do much of anything else. If you can score 35-40 goals and/or get to about 50 assists, that tends to fly. But he'll need to show that sort of production and ideally stay healthy and in the lineup.
Also worth noting that soon anaheim is going to have to offer a lot of $$ to RFA and UFA players, so i think they actually did ok in this. I guess they lost out on the likely 1st round + value he might have been capable of bringing in 2 years ago, but now it's the flyers problem to deal with. If he does well, he's in for a raise and would you look at that his contract is expiring just in time. If he does poorly, it's lost assets for a reclamation project.
Thats why he went for the price he did, and i'm not sad we missed out honestly. There were deals i would've done for him that imo would've made that acquisition something that improved us, but i wouldn't have gotten to Philly's price.

Well you would have to pay him more than he is worth then give him a raise to retain his rights so I'm kind of surprised they got anything at all.
I would not sign him for 5.7 million let alone trade for him then give him a raise.

No kidding... $5+ million for an off-injured, middling soft winger who is a turn-over machine??? Someone will take a chance on him though.

Just to clarify, for qualifying offers you don't have to give a raise to players making over 1M, just match the current salary.

Ah, still a no for me even without trade assets going the other way.bluetunehead wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 11:09 amJust to clarify, for qualifying offers you don't have to give a raise to players making over 1M, just match the current salary.
Last off season I probably would have made that trade.
