Completely disagree Pads.PadsFS07 wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 14:11 pmI agree with AOF here. Why do you think a 19-21 yr old and a collegiate coaching staff are more responsible than major league teams and their team of specialists?Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 13:15 pm Dude, they were competing for a CWS Title. It's not abuse at all. Pitch count is simply a number. Not all pitches are created equal. The game has gotten completely soft anymore with usage, hence a partial reason for so many more arm injuries. (The max effort, high spin is another major factor.) I'm certain the kid was consulted. He will have a long break before he has to pitch again. He'll be fine!
To be successful, pitchers HAVE to have max effort, high spin, etc, and one way to mitigate that is with pitch count limits. That's why they exist.
Pitchers do not have to have max effort to be successful. That has become the norm lately and guys have lost the art of pitching. Doesn't mean it doesn't work anymore. They've simply abandoned this philosophy, as the $$ has been for the high velo/high K guys. (Also, teams now draft "stuff" more than "players" anymore.)
Also, arent college guys getting NIL money now? (So even less of a reason to "feel sorry" for these guys.)
There is so much money in the MLB now that teams have "babied" pitchers in hopes of protecting their monetary investments. Doesn't mean that that is the best way to develop arm. There are a lot of old school baseball pitching coaches/managers that still believe that pitching more creates a stronger arm that is less susceptible to injury.
The college season is much shorter than the MLB season too. 135 pitches in the CWS isn’t that big if a deal.
Side Note: HS pitching limit is now 105 in Missouri per game for juniors/seniors. That's way more than an MLB guy rarely goes anymore.
