Marlins would want prospects (re: low salaries) so they'd have little interest in Noot or Gorman or Burly.
Crooks is a nice start (unless they have a top catching prospect) + Prieto (large Cuban pop in So Florida) + ?????

They have a young catcher (Agustin Ramirez) at the MLB level, but he seems to be of the Ivan Herrera future at catcher. He’s got 11 HR and a .730 OPS in 222 PAs in his rookie year, but has thrown out 3 of 33 base stealers and has a league leading 6 PB and -5 DRS.rockondlouie wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 13:45 pmMarlins would want prospects (re: low salaries) so they'd have little interest in Noot or Gorman or Burly.

Good question I wasn't aware of. Thanks for answering below Future GM.
Interesting conversation. Thanks for posting.Sweet Jones wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 17:21 pm Speculation up here in Chicago is that the Cubs will be in on Alcantara:

2-3 of Crooks/Church/Davis/Prieto would more than equal that guy.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 20:25 pmInteresting conversation. Thanks for posting.Sweet Jones wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 17:21 pm Speculation up here in Chicago is that the Cubs will be in on Alcantara:

This is a player they speculated Miami would want because they wanted him previously.

With starter Brown failing, I’d watch the Cubs. What’s worse than not getting him is- he goes to a rival, we see them 13 times per year, and they may get a league level ace.3dender wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 07:46 am2-3 of Crooks/Church/Davis/Prieto would more than equal that guy.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 20:25 pmInteresting conversation. Was acquired in the Darvish trade. Top 50 prospect and bat definitely seems legit. Still got some swing and miss to his game.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 20:25 pmInteresting conversation. Interesting. I'm skeptical the Cardinals would take on that salary with the limited TV revenue and mediocre attendance and my impression is Bloom was hired to build the minor league system and develop from within.Sweet Jones wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 09:53 amWas acquired in the Darvish trade. Caissie is kinda blocked right now in the Cubs OF. He's considered their insurance in case Tucker doesn't resign or if they don't extend Happ. By all accounts up here, the front office seems willing to move either him or Kevin Alcántara for a TOR pitcher.
If you trade for Alcantara, you are trying to win now. That means you are not trading Burleson who is one of your 3 best hitters.
I agree I think it will cost one of Hence, Matthew or McGeevy as the opening. I think they want Bernal over Crooks. They have no need to trade Sandy and will have offers galore to choose from. Some team will overpay to make a run at the playoffs. My surprise pick is Detroit as they have lots of prospects including young pitching they could offer. Would not be shocked if the Dodgers get him or the Cubs.ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑24 Jun 2025 14:41 pmIf you trade for Alcantara, you are trying to win now. I am guessing the Marlins are going to want 1 of McGreevy or Mathews + 1 of Crooks or Bernal in return. I also do not subscribe to BTV either, so that is a guess at balance. The Cards would then have to trade Fedde to make room in the rotation and get some prospect value back. I can't imagine the Cards doing that given their strategy. But if he is pitching well, Alcantara and Gray give you a decent 1 2 punch for the post season. The only problem is Gray does not push himself, which means no long games or games on short rest. The benefit of this trade is that Alcantara has years of control, which will offset the loss of McGreevy or Mathews and they have plenty of catching depth.
Unfortunately Mikolas has a NTC and has made it clear he won't waive it. So Fedde would be the guy going out and he would help more for a post season run. That is the big argument against the trade is hurting your current year changes by what you have to send out. They can't afford to trade either of Pallante or Liberatore because of the control years. If Libby is pitching like a stud by year end, then maybe you have 3 top pitchers for the playoffs.
