He appears to be recovered from Tommy John. Marlins reportedly are shopping him. Still not as dominant as in the CY Young season but pitching well. $17 million in '25 and '26. Club option in '27.
If I was the Cardinals GM I'd be on the phone.

Re: Alcantara in June
He's an attractive veteran in his prime to add to our rotation with Gray while the kids matriculate into the rotation. Are the Cardinals close enough to be buyers? I guess you could go after him and still sell off Fedde and/or Mikolas if they decide to both buy and sell. Problem is there are teams that are for sure buyers and Alcantara will likely be more valuable to them in a trade and would likely be willing to pay more for him than the Cardinals probably should. Though the wins that take you from out of the playoffs to a playoff spot are the most valuable wins on the win curve, so maybe he would be worth a lot to the Cardinals (not to mention the effect it could have on the fanbase and thus attendance).

What is an even match of value at this point. Can you center a trade around Nootbaar or is he the throw-in.rbirules wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 10:43 am He's an attractive veteran in his prime to add to our rotation with Gray while the kids matriculate into the rotation. Re: Alcantara in June
In my reset we need a stud pitcher. This might work. And as noted, you can still sell Mik Fedde and helsley, as you got McG and Granillo to fill.rbirules wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 10:43 am He's an attractive veteran in his prime to add to our rotation with Gray while the kids matriculate into the rotation. That would be a fine tune up.
Re: Alcantara in June
What about trying to get Alcantara and Jesus Sanchez together? Sanchez had one of his better offensive years with Brant Brown as the hitting coach and has seemed like a corner OF that had .800+ OPS upside. I’m surprised he still has 2 more years of control beyond this year, too.rbirules wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 10:43 am He's an attractive veteran in his prime to add to our rotation with Gray while the kids matriculate into the rotation. I don’t even know what the Marlins would want though. I would think Jimmy Crooks would be a guy we could put in a package. Agustin doesn’t look like a good defensive catcher. I wouldn’t be surprised if they would ask for a guy like Hence.

I don't know what it would take to get Alcantara or Alcantara + Sanchez. Only the front office knows that. Just pointing out that after a rough couple months he has turned it around in June and the Marlins have been shopping him. They would want prospects. Which ones I can't say.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 10:52 amWhat about trying to get Alcantara and Jesus Sanchez together? Re: Alcantara in June
My guess is it would take more - probably prospects. Nootbaar is having a bad season. If he continues to pitch well the price will get higher.imadangman wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 10:45 amWhat is an even match of value at this point. Re: Alcantara in June
Idk what the BTV est. values are anymore, but Burleson, Crooks and Graceffo for Sanchez and Alcantara. Balance as needed.
Cards only do this if they think Bernal is the real deal and better than Crooks will be. Always risk involved.

Whatever we trade can it not be a pitcher?
Noot/Gorman/Burleson + Crooks, who says no?

Re: Alcantara in June
Marlins will likely only be interested in prospects and pre-arbitration players. Noot only has two years of control left, and they won’t be cheap… he’s not a “throw in” to a team like the Marlins.imadangman wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 10:45 amWhat is an even match of value at this point. Re: Alcantara in June
The rotation will be the biggest topic for the team moving from 2025 to 2026.
I could see Alcantara as a target.
The Cards have some cost controlled position player depth that could make up a good package.

Re: Alcantara in June
Mo would never take this much egg on his face to trade for Alcantara back

Re: Alcantara in June
DeWitt is partly to blame. Remember his statement when Matheny was fired "winning isn't enough". Team was winning and drawing excellent attendance. DeWitt pressured Mozeliak into trading prospects for established players to make the playoffs.
The fact the Alcantara and Gallen weren't developing in the Cardinals minor league system is on Mozeliak but the trade is partly on DeWitt. I suspect any trade now would have to go through Bloom and DeWitt. Kind of a strange situation with a lame duck guy running the front office and his replacement already in place. If Bloom was hired to win from within with a lower budget then we can probably forget trading for Alcantara or any other relatively expensive player.

Re: Alcantara in June
Does it matter that Crooks is rule 5 this off-season
Re: Alcantara in June
He would be added of course, there’s no reason to believe that he wouldn’t be if he’s still with the organization. And it won’t affect his trade value either.
