Noah Dobson, RD, 1 year til UFA
I thought there was a thread on him recently but I went back about 11 pages & didn't see it. Anyway there has been some discussion that the Isles are testing the market. Teams like Utah & Vegas are possible destinations.
NYI probably doesn't want Faulk back in the deal, so if the Blues were interested & in the mix with teams like Utah and Vegas, Blues would likely have to move Faulk separately (or even if the Isles wanted him) which unfortunately he could easily stop and probably would. But let's say the Blues decided to move Tucker over to Suter's spot on 3d pair LD and put Faulk on the third pair. Yeah it's a bit expensive on the right side but that clears up once Faulk is out one way or another.
Dobson is RFA now with 1 year til UFA, so this summer's deal is going to be a 7 year or 8 year mostly UFA contract and will probably be 9M+
The pool of quality AVAILABLE right defensemen at his age is limited. Blues may have the assets, though if Utah puts #4 overall in play it might make the offer too sweet for us to match.
It's worth some discussion. Dobson isn't perfect but he is one of the closer players to the profile we need. If the Isles are truly testing the market then we are one of the teams timed to be able to take advantage.

His camp thinks he should be getting over 10 aav. Sign and trade at a minimum but he has done nothing to justify coming in as highest paid player even with the cap moving up. Took a step back this year as well.

His next deal is a sticker shock candidate for sure given the scarcity principle and the cap going up. But on the ice, Parayko-Dobson on the right side is legitimate RD.

Re: Noah Dobson, RD, 1 year til UFA
I know most would not, but I would trade Kyrou for Dobson for many reasons some of which you noted:
Our depth is at wing.
Buchnevich played almost exclusively at RW in NY so he can join Snugs at RW.
Supply & demand; Wingers are always available, quality RHD that have played top pair are not.
You need forwards willing to take hits to make plays when the game shrinks come playoffs. Kyrou does not.
Compare Sam Reinhart to Kyrou. Their listed height and weight are near identical and they both play RW. That's about all they have in common. Reino will take hits and goes to the dirty areas. He has also picked up the pace on delivering hits since arriving in Miami.
You need big defensemen even if they're not overly physical to win Cups.
The clock is ticking on that NTC.
I have no idea why the Islanders would want Kyrou though. They already have their version (Barzal).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How about Rasmus Andersson?
I know he would be a longshot here but he would also slot in perfectly behind Parayko and could partner with a fellow Swede.
He's in the last year of his deal and is a bargain for 25-26 even though he is coming off a bad year.
He's very durable and built like Faulk.
What is he asking for in his next contract?
Fowler-Parayko
Broberg-Andersson
Leddy-Faulk
Acquiring Andersson would most likely mean that the Blues wouldn't have the cap space to upgrade at center unless they trade a roster player.
Finding a dumping ground for our slop is the problem.
The other problem is our draft spot is too late to entice Calgary.
The Flames have several other RHD:
They can move Weegar back to his natural side.
Parekh seems like he is ready for full time duty.
They have Pachal for the 3rd pair and a decent prospect Brzustewicz ready soon.
The Flames desperately need to get a young center in the pipeline.
If Utah is serious about trading pick 4 look for Calgary & Andersson to be in play.
While Andersson is not a #1, he's better than Marino and Durzi and the Mammoth would look a lot better slotting Marino & Durzi down a pair. Utah would probably want another asset back.
I can also see Buffalo (Adams realizes he has to make the playoffs) and Anaheim (coach Q wants to get the Ducks in the playoffs by 27 at the latest) at 9 & 10 willing to trade their picks for a very good RHD.
Will a center that the Flames covet fall that far?
Can Andersson be talked into going to Buffalo? He just might like to play with his stud countrymen (Dahlin).
That would open the Sabres up to trading Byram for forward help and finally get some equilibrium on their blue line.
Dahlin-Andersson
Power-Clifton
Samuelsson-JBD
The Sabres would still need another upgrade at RHD IMO.
The Ducks already have 3 RHD for 25-26 but need an upgrade because Trouba and Gudas are well past their prime & also in their walk years.
Mintyukov-Andersson
LaCombe-Helleson
Zellweger-Trouba
Dallas has needed an RHD to play behind Heiskanen for awhile now.
As mentioned earlier, the cap hit of Andersson for the 25-26 is very reasonable for the Stars to reconcile.
The Leafs have needed a good RHD for years. Their GM is very familiar with Andersson.
The problem is they don't have the assets that Calgary would want.
Many other teams will be calling Conroy to see what the ask is.

What about Dante Fabbro? He hasn't signed yet.

Honestly, I don't see it with either of them.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 06:54 amMy sense is that Armey is targeting him and Nick Perbix. Given the market demand and cap, he needs to be willing to overpay if he wants a rd by way of fa.
I think if Army goes after a Dman at all, he's going to want somebody in a similar mold to Tyler Tucker(only more talented). The team clearly responded to Tucker's physical play.
I could see a reunion with Erik Johnson more than I can a push for Perbix or Fabbro.

Didn't see that coming. Haven't heard anything about Johnson. Do you mind trying to sell me on it? Interesting, didn't realize he had anything left.kimzey59 wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 08:39 amHonestly, I don't see it with either of them.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 06:54 amMy sense is that Armey is targeting him and Nick Perbix. while Johnson wouldn't be turrible, I don't think he's better than Faulk at this stage. kinda feels like shuffling chairs on the deckTAFKAP wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 13:08 pmDidn't see that coming. – Should we discuss a potential deal to get a cornerstone defenseman who might be available?
– no, we should target Erik Johnson to upgrade Faulk
genuinely funny

honest question.. do you think Dobson is worth 9+ for 8 yrs? and what it costs to trade for him?seattleblue wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 13:20 pm – Should we discuss a potential deal to get a cornerstone defenseman who might be available?

We wouldn't be signing him to replace Faulk.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 13:14 pmwhile Johnson wouldn't be turrible, I don't think he's better than Faulk at this stage. kinda feels like shuffling chairs on the deckTAFKAP wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 13:08 pmDidn't see that coming. EJ is a 3rd pairing guy at this point.
He'd be stepping into Suter's spot.

Re: Noah Dobson, RD, 1 year til UFA
I think he's better than Bouchard as a player, minus the shot. Top 10 in the NHL over the last three seasons in points and shots, he's 25years old, 23-24 minutes every situations defenseman. On the ice this is a massive upgrade on Faulk. That right there has to make me play with the idea.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 13:28 pmhonest question.. do you think Dobson is worth 9+ for 8 yrs? and what it costs to trade for him?seattleblue wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 13:20 pm – Should we discuss a potential deal to get a cornerstone defenseman who might be available?

Also coming off a dip year which wasn't necessarily him or isn't necessarily uncommon for an emerging stud RD, but it might slightly tamp down what the cost would be and that's good, because I think the real Dobson is better than this year's version and the one that we'd get and he'd be great on a better team. The Islanders should not make this player available IMO, they should re-sign him.
Will be expensive to trade for and then pay, since his deal will reflect %age of cap. But to me, expensiveness is baked into this one, and it's really the only one. The RD that we are trying to acquire isn't going to be some lucky Holloway grab which is what I think people are kind of hoping for. I think they'd probably have to give up at least 1 prospect or player I don't want them to give up. I haven't played with the idea hugely that's why I am putting it out there, but the thread premise is big game hunting at the position.
Re: Noah Dobson, RD, 1 year til UFA
Big, physical, solid defensively, still has the canon, Cup experience, still more mobile than TuckerTAFKAP wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 13:08 pmDidn't see that coming. Haven't heard anything about Johnson. You're signing him as a 3rd pairing guy at this point, but he'd slot into the Suter role next to Leddy pretty easily.
I honestly just don't see Army doing anything with our top 4 this summer. I see either a 3rd pairing guy or a clear cut #7 as the only move.

When you look at the number of defensemen who've put up 70pts at age 24 or under you will find it's a pretty short list and Dobson is on it. The position scarcity alone would force me to do it and we would have to add if anyone adds. But I would rather be paying Dobson the money and giving Snuggerud and Bolduc on smaller contracts the minutes Kyrou was getting. Our 1st round pick in 2021 (RW) and our first round pick in 2022 (RW) are good internal replacement options at RW.TheHighHat wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 19:27 pm I know most would not, but I would trade Kyrou for Dobson for many reasons some of which you noted:
