I agree. Possibly just lack of experience with playing CF for OC.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 10:51 amNot always. Runner at first base. Ball up the middle not right field. Still, it's a bad initial reaction that will likely get overblown, but unless the other OF'ers are dogging it by not backing up, it's a bad error made to look even "badder" by not hustling futility after it.

Not from what I saw, the ball got past the glove at 19 seconds, they cut AAA to the runner at 13 seconds and the RFer still wasn’t there. Maybe he doesn’t get there first but to just completely stop and not care was awful.JDW wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 10:59 amLooks like to me it took the RF about 4 seconds to get to it, and without the backwards momentum OC's would have had so the RF'ers throw was quicker and more accurate than Cruz's likely would have been.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 10:22 amNo need to play that ball off the side with a runner at first base. Also, although we tend to forget them, OF'ers from the 60's or whenever occasionally had misplays like this.
The fields are so manicured these days, aggressive approaches are less risky, but the key is to watch it all the way into the glove. On that particular play, I'd be trying to get more in line with my throwing side, but the ball was hard hit and maybe one wouldn't have had time. But yes, with just a runner on 1B, he was overly aggressive with his approach, but made up for it with no aggressiveness going after it, lol.
Lots of posters didn't like him, but Bader was good at aggressive approaches on hits which helped reduce base running advancements, enough that even with the occasional error, IF you're using good judgements on which plays to be aggressive, it still can pay off overall.
OC was also lacking good judgement on being that aggressive on this particular hit imo.

Just trying to count from when the ball is missed, I don't think it's 6 sec., but that's obviously unofficial, and maybe it's as long as almost 5.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 11:14 amNot from what I saw, the ball got past the glove at 19 seconds, they cut AAA to the runner at 13 seconds and the RFer still wasn’t there. Yes, optically it might look like he doesn't care, but once you miss it you're kind of screwed, but for the fans sake I'll agree it looks better if you sprint after it then duck if you're in the way of the RF'ers throw.

Re: Oneil Cruz
He currently leads MLB in errors for an OF. His rookie season he led the majors at SS. Both key positions. Just because he's fast doesn't mean he is a CF. I wonder if anybody has ever led the league in errors at 2 different positions.JDW wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 11:00 amI agree.
