Fundamentals
Masyn Winn decides not to run out a ground ball and it costs the team a run; Victor Scott decides to bunt with two strikes (twice) and both times fouls out; Jordan Walker doesn't have a clue what is required of him to be a team player. Is Marmol to blame for gross mismanagement or these young guys just not prepared right?

Re: Fundamentals
Yes, when the team was rolling along there, they did all of the little things. Now that has broken down. Several situations lately in close games where runner was on 2B with no outs and the hitter failed to advance him to 3B. Taking strike three right down the middle because you were guessing instead of guarding the dish with two strikes. It has been maddening lately.....suzybuck wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 06:24 am Masyn Winn decides not to run out a ground ball and it costs the team a run; Victor Scott decides to bunt with two strikes (twice) and both times fouls out; Jordan Walker doesn't have a clue what is required of him to be a team player. Re: Fundamentals
This is the difference between prospects and players that need to be developed Vs. more established big leaguers.
There is no real difference between the Dodgers and the White Sox the Cards just swept. They are all very talented ultra high level baseball players with the tools to be successful and have been at different levels. The tiny things in real competition make all the difference. The chisox can beat the Dodgers on any given day or series, the Dodgers will be way more successful over the long haul because they play cleaner more focused and confident baseball. These games usually just come down to one or two breaks (error, wild pitch, clutch hit, getting runners over, taking an extra base etc) in the fundamentals. All the teams have guys that can run fast, hit hard, throw hard, make contact, it's about execution in a few key spots.

Exactly. Very little to no difference in talent levels. Very fine write.Ike Hammett wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:47 am This is the difference between prospects and players that need to be developed Vs. more established big leaguers.

Re: Fundamentals
I am really disappointed they didn’t bench Winn. I know he got key hit later and played well, but for a young team you have to send the message. I didn’t see post game interview. Did Oli comment?

Your premise is logical but having Ohtani, Freeman, and Mookie can cover up a few more mistakes than the ChiSix can afford.Ike Hammett wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:47 am This is the difference between prospects and players that need to be developed Vs. more established big leaguers.

As far as the OP, as a Winn fan, it was tough to watch that play. Even tougher was watching Oli laugh with him as he went back in the dugout. TLR would’ve been chewing his butt all the way back to the dugout, block him from the dugout and chew some more, then probably bench him the rest of the game. Oli needs a little more fire with the young guys and a little less with the umps.
Re: Fundamentals
Oli does seem more like a "players coach", so to speak.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:56 amYour premise is logical but having Ohtani, Freeman, and Mookie can cover up a few more mistakes than the ChiSix can afford.Ike Hammett wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:47 am This is the difference between prospects and players that need to be developed Vs. more established big leaguers.

Re: Fundamentals
I am not sure Winn needed to be benched, but someone (Oli) needed to get in his ear and tell him that will not EVER happen again. I have seen a number of guys not run it out lately. Run hard on every play. It is only 90 ft and you are in top shape. You never know when the error happens.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:56 amYour premise is logical but having Ohtani, Freeman, and Mookie can cover up a few more mistakes than the ChiSix can afford.Ike Hammett wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:47 am This is the difference between prospects and players that need to be developed Vs. more established big leaguers.

Re: Fundamentals
Definitely. Which can help in some cases but can’t let young guys play lazy-ball. At first I thought maybe Winn’s back was hurting but then he turned it on when he recognized the would-be error.Shady wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:59 amOli does seem more like a "players coach", so to speak.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:56 amYour premise is logical but having Ohtani, Freeman, and Mookie can cover up a few more mistakes than the ChiSix can afford.Ike Hammett wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:47 am This is the difference between prospects and players that need to be developed Vs. more established big leaguers.

I remember Pujols being somewhat allowed to dog it to protect his bad foot from chronic plantar fasciitis. Winn’s not the old beat up vet yet.

At least Chip called it out, so all fans watching the game saw it, and he repeated it at least once, maybe more -- all while not being obnoxious or vicious about it.

Re: Fundamentals
Get real dude. The White Sox are not your company softball team or local high school team. Those guys are all high round draft choices, guys with MLB resumes or proven players to hang around in the big leagues. They literally are in the same league. There are millions of people that have played baseball on some level, there are only so many spots available on major league teams. YOU MUST BE REALLY GOOD TO EVEN BE IN THE LEAGUE! If the Dodgers don't bring their A game and the Sox play clean focused error free ball, they can and will beat the Dodger any game, any series. They just aren't as consistently good at playing that clean and error free.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 10:56 amYeah, no. Because he is supposed to be the head coach? Patterns are formed when things aren't addressed. Its the manager's job to address. Not that hard to figure out.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 10:55 amHow is a manager responsible ?suzybuck wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 06:24 am Masyn Winn decides not to run out a ground ball and it costs the team a run; Victor Scott decides to bunt with two strikes (twice) and both times fouls out; Jordan Walker doesn't have a clue what is required of him to be a team player.
