Re: Blues rumors?
Latest one I heard was the Blues are interested in Mikael Granlund. Which would be a sweet get if they can get him. I've always liked him.

Re: Blues rumors?
Only thing I don’t like about granlund is that he’s not a faceoff guy. Win rates going down which has led to teams giving him less faceoff opportunities. If we’re losing Faksa who is great at it, I think we need to bring in someone who can win faceoffs and contribute to PK while providing a bump in offense.Lone_Ranger wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 09:07 am Latest one I heard was the Blues are interested in Mikael Granlund. Stats don't support that claim.brianstlou2 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 12:08 pmOnly thing I don’t like about granlund is that he’s not a faceoff guy. Granlund has been in the League for 13 years. He just put up his 4th best FO% while taking the 6th most FO's in a season.
Not that Granlund is even remotely a FO specialist; but I don't see any evidence that he's getting less opportunities or that his numbers are going down.

Re: Blues rumors?
I looked on your link and that’s not the data I’m reading. Perhaps I’m wrong but a couple seasons ago he was over 1,100 faceoffs and this year he was around 700. In 31 games for DAL he had about 50-60 FO annd for SJ prior 50 games he had around 600. That seems much less. And I think we both agree that a faceoff % of 47-48% for his career is not good.kimzey59 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 12:26 pmStats don't support that claim.brianstlou2 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 12:08 pmOnly thing I don’t like about granlund is that he’s not a faceoff guy. Granlund is NOT a Monty player.
His defense is brutal…..he doesn’t play it.

Re: Blues rumors?
I know I'm in the minority and even on the opposite side of the experts, but I think face-off percentage is about as worthless as plus minus. Seems to me most aren't won cleanly by the center and the guy with the wingers that out work the opposition gets the W. And the guy with the lazy wingers gets the L.

Re: Blues rumors?
Granlund has bounced between wing and center off an on throughout his career. He was a center his first few seasons in the league, then shifted to wing in his last few in Minnesota. He got moved to Nashville where he played more center again at first and then wing more later. In SJ he was primarily a center, then he got moved to Dallas where they used him mainly as a winger.
He can do both. He's not a great defensive player. He's never been particularly good on the draw.

Re: Blues rumors?
From DA interview after the season he mentioned a 200 ft player who could add scoring. Do we see Granlund as a 200 ft player? I hope the Blues don't go in that direction. I also doubt that he signs for less than 3 years.
Re: Blues rumors?
This. We need a center who is defensively elite, even at the cost of offense. Thomas is not strong defensively as a 1C so we have historically had trouble matching him with Kyrou who is also not strong defensively. Plus, some of our young players like Bolduc, Snuggs, and Dvorsky are more offense first and their defense has not yet matured. We need a strong defensive, veteran center.Bubble4427 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 16:27 pm Granlund is NOT a Monty player.

I wish we would have found a way to hang on to Barbashev as at $5M per year he is under a team friendly contract. He now plays wing mainly with Eichel though, but he is defensively very solid.
Re: Blues rumors?
I heard a rumour that Army can't pull off a deal for a young 2c
And that's why we are again(year 5) talking about old guys we hope can fill 3rd line center.
We are not a small contender with Schenn at 2c. If we are not going to build a cup contender. We need a lottery pick next year.

Re: Blues rumors?
faceoff's are definitely important in specific scenarios regardless of your opinion of them. winning them late in the game down or up a goal can buy you or save you 5-10 seconds if you take advantage of it maybe it ties or wins you the game outright. a 47-48 faceoff percentage would be better than some of the centers we were playing this year, i'd say it's not a detriment. The problem is he's not really the right style for this team, it's like adding a much better version of Texier but one that is also getting older. a short 15-20 goal scorer who doesn't hit or play defense is probably a net upgrade of 3-4 goal overall over Faksa (+10 to +15 on offense, -7 to -12 on defense).
The other issue with this deal is money. Faksa's likely landing value is somewhere at or below what he made this season, a depth center is a solid commodity but not one that commands 4-5M, it usually commands 1.5 or less for the mediocre ones, or for the better ones which i feel faksa is about 2.5. Would i rather Faksa at 2.5M or Granlund at 5M with term likely being 2-3 years on either deal? I recognize the need for a better middle 6 center upgrade, but i think i'd rather run it back with Faksa if Granlund is all we can reasonably afford or go after.

Pray tell. Where did this “rumor” come from?Cahokanut wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025 09:27 am I heard a rumour that Army can't pull off a deal for a young 2c

So it’s all or nothing? Cup or Lottery? We were 1.6 seconds away from round 2 with last year’s team and looking at how things turned out it would have been interesting to see how it would have played out with us in the mix. You don’t just bag that and hope for a lotto pick greenie.

That rumour has been going around. I think it will be on his statue....
Cup or lottery, makes a good slogan. But if we are not building for a cup. We need to be looking at the future. A lottery in next year's draft sets the future up to being contenders. Instead of riding the bubble for another old guys no move contract. We need to keep building with youth. Whether that's a young center traded for, or a elite out of next year's draft.
About those two seconds. Let talk 2 minutes. I wouldn't be bragging about losing against probably the worse playoff goalie, at the time.
We wasn't, aren't, won't be a second round team. We are a bubble team that can go as far as Binny can take us.
