Each MLB Team's Most Disappointing Player

Post by Pink Freud »

According to the monthly Sports Illustrated, these are the players most letting their (often new) teams down; yes, Andre Pallante, we're talking to you.

Once again, for many teams it's proof that signing a free agent --- often coming off his super-motivated [and medicated?] best season --- to an oversized deal carries far more risk than reward. Just ask the AZ Diamondbacks, with four consecutive, pricey starting pitcher signing disasters: https://www.si.com/mlb/mlb-power-rankin ... ng-players

Are you sure Lars Nootbaar isn't the Cardinals most disappointing player?

I would think helsley would be the easy choice. He went from lights out it’s over when he came in last season to score 3 or more and hold your breath when he comes in this season

He was never projected to be a star.

Its kinda crazy that its pallante though. Walker i cp sider disappointment but maybe since walkers disappointment started last year they lowered expectations

Id say walker although that started lastyear. Im really surprised they said pallante.

Pallante was a guy demited to minirs last year after a disappointing 2023 too- and his nu.bers as a starter when he returned last year were fueled by a lot of luck according to metrics.

I do t think he was projected as anything hifh. Its like writer peaked at his era split as starterlast year and then wrote him in with expectations of an ace which is kinda crazy.

Not sure I would say his numbers last year were a lot of luck. He had a 3.78 ERA, his xERA was 3.46, his FIP was 3.71, his xFIP was 3.89. BABIP of .286, LOB% of 70.6% (league LOB% was 72%).

Agree on all points. I’m still more bullish on JW than Pallante based on age and raw talent. He was also called up early and then completely overhauled after promising rookie season. That softens the disappointment factor with me some.

Except Walker, my most disappointing player is Ivan Herrera for defense. If he could catch like Pages it opens up all sorts of offense potential. Both the best surprise and disappointing things at the same time.

I’m ok with it because I don’t think Bernal is that far away, so no problem with Herrera being a DH or maybe they can try him in LF over the offseason for next year.

The first name that popped into my head before reading was Pallante.

he needs to be at Memphis for "depth", McG in the Cardinals rotation.

I think it's a big problem with him being DH, he is too young to be permanent DH and blocks others from resting or getting at bats. The dream scenario is him being a decent left fielder and putting up Yordan Alverez type numbers. If Bernal is the real deal like you are stating than Herrera could be the centerpiece with maybe a Walker and Burly to get a huge superstar to build around. Paul Skenes level or whoever the next Juan Soto is.
