Edmonton Newspaper: Losing Holloway & Broberg to STL Really Hurt

Post by Clark Kimble »

I don't know if this beat writer's suggestion of a complete overhaul is wise --- the Oilers went to their second straight Finals; could anyone have beaten these Panthers? --- but two of their players who got away, and Zach Hyman's injury--- really hurt them.

I thought that there would be a good chance of this happening...

The best player ever...
The best player combo ever...
didn't win a Cup because of St Louis's steal of Broberg and Holloway.

I don't think that I will ever vacation in Edmonton.

Ha...we were supposed to vacation in Canada last year. Hit a couple of the national parks and spend a day in Edmonton. We thought about skipping Edmonton after the offer sheets but the wildfires killed the trip.

I posted on the Oiler's Hockey Futures site if the board would feel more optimistic about the future if they had not lost Broberg and Holloway and I lost my privilege to post for asking that question.

I think they did answer my question with that response. I mean it was not snarky in any way. I just wanted to know.

That and add to the pain of losing the Stanley Cup Final, as they can't say we made sacrifices (i.e. trading picks and players and the clubs future) to win the Cup...

Now look at the organization, no cups and they lost two of their key former 1st rounders for basically nothing. Man it sucks to be an Oiler's fan right now.

Funny, I just saw a video on Facebook from a site called OilersNation. Some 12-yr old looking kid was talking about why the Oilers should offer sheet Hofer. In the end, it seemed his main reason was to “F#@% St. Louis”. I was going to make a comment but then thought about, your post and figured why bother. They are a cranky, irrational bunch right now so I’m not rubbing salt in the wounds.

honestly, the could DEFINITELY use Hofer.. problem is, don't think they can afford him.. not at a salary that STL wouldn't match

saw another article a week or so ago saying how the Flyers should OS him at 2.8 and that STL wouldn't match that..lol

some of these team based writers are ridiculous

Good idea. I know what suffering is like I been a Blues fan since the very beginning but today I own a Bobby Orr hat that depicts Orr's famous leap after scoring his famous goal.

I read those articles, nothing much to add. A couple of wrong moves THIS summer and the Oil might not MAKE the playoffs.

Disagree - their goalie situation is what really hurt.
