Jatalk wrote: 19 Jun 2025 10:35 am This has really been discussed many times. I’m quickly realizing why many criticize those who start topics on a constant basis. But to respond. There is a glut of infield players primarily due to the Arenado situation. You can’t bring these guys up and not play on a consistent basis. You could but it would be foolish. You can’t just reposition them to the outfield. That is an off season and spring training transition.

This is also a reason you may see one of these guys traded.
LOL
The topic has been beaten death!
But.....to summarize AGAIN:
2026 will continue to be an evaluation season.
Patience!
2025- Continue to evaluate who stays and who goes?
This includes Walker, Gorman,Burleson, Scott, etc etc.
Saggese? He’s currently blocked while we evaluate the above list.
Leave him where he is! If the Cards move on from Arenado and/or any of the above it opens up an opportunity for Saggese(likely 2026) and of course Wetherholt.

Now....hopefully we all don’t have to comment on this SAME topic tomorrow?
Don't comment then.
I just did comment.
Others have commented as well.
The OP is a good topic......BUT......repeating the SAME TOPIC over and over and over and over makes no sense.
There is a timeline....show some patience!
Saggese and JJ likely fit in the plans for 2026.
Others have told you the same.
You are entitled to your valid opinions BUT repetitive threads aren’t necessary just because you don’t like the opinions of others!

Seriously, why do you talk about the same topic like every day or every other day? This thing is discussed on the board many times. Talking about it every other day isn’t going to change anything.

My phone rang. I answered.

Purportedly it was ice telling me my visa expired and they needed my credit card for a deposit to extend it.

I told them I was on vacation in Uranus and would have to get back to them.

I guess the bottom line to my OP is. How do you fit Walker, Gorman, Contreras, Winn, Donovan, Herrera, Burleson, Scott, Nootbaar, Saggese and Wetherholt in the future lineup? Also, with some fine additional catchers on the way. It seems to me a trade or two could be in order.

Good teams deal with some form of this "problem" on a regular basis. It is a good sign that we have fewer holes than we used to. The big danger is that once we find a "good" solution to the holes we have/had, that we are not brave enough to be willing to upgrade to a "better" option.

Shady wrote: 19 Jun 2025 10:44 am What I'm saying is. The Cardinals need as many really good, consistent hitters in the lineup as possible. Also keeping defense in mind. Right now, this is a tricky situation for the Cardinals. That being said, how could you get Donovasn, Herrera, Burleson, Saggese and Wetherholt all in the lineup at the same time? A long with Winn and Contreras.
Easy.....

Donovan - LF
Herrera -C
Burleson - DH
Saggese- 2B
Wetherholt- 3B
Winn - SS
Contreras - 1B
Then you have Scott II in CF and Walker in RF.

Better option might be to use Donovan or Saggese as a super utility guy that gets starter ABs.

Correct. The Cardinals have had too many adequate players for far too long and have always been unwilling to get a better option. This is a big concern going forward. Yes, we have a lot of good, young players, but we still need a bigtime MOTO bat and an Ace.

2026:
Ace
Gray
Pallante
McGreevy
Mathews

Lineup:
Donovan
Winn
MOTO Bat
Contreras
Herrera
Saggese
Burleson
Wetherholt
Walker
Scott II
Pages/Crooks

Notable Subtractions:
Mikolas
Matz
Fedde
Arenado
Nootbaar
Gorman

Wetherholt at 3B, Saggese 2B and Donovan in LF, Scott CF and Walker RF. If this scenarion plays out, could Gorman and Nootbaar be traded? Could happen.

I’ve always thought you were a bit harsh in your Shady responses but I have come around to your way of thinking.
