OT: Could have had a sparkling pitching matchup today

Post by Futuregm2 »

With a double header today in Detroit, the Tigers are pitching Tarik Skubal in game one and the Pirates are starting Paul Skenes in game two. Oh how I wish that the teams would have put the two against each other.

Tarik Skubal is 7-2 1.99 ERA 1.87 FIP 3.6 fWAR
Paul Skenes is 4-6 1.78 ERA 2.47 FIP 3.0 fWAR

2 marquee pitchers most fans in MLB would love to watch perform. Against each other has the potential to be the game where few people watch their I Phones during a game and actually watch the game on the field.

Fans lose out not getting the marquee match up.

Pirates probably think not using Skenes vs Skubal MAY give them a chance to win one of the two games

The Pirates do not deserve that kind of talent

Skubal's last start was pretty shaky as he actually walked two batters. That equals the total walks over his last eight starts. He'd been on a 78/2 K/W run.

And he’s already walked 2 batters in the first inning today. Went 3-1 with 3 of the first 4 batters.

He has a good chance to be the first sub 10 win Cy Young.
