Minor League Updates (6/17) ~ Cards System

Post by craviduce »

RHP Edwin Nunez , AA, demoted to FCL.

the real wild one, has had two tumultuous seasons with Springfield. The Organization tried making him a starter last season...disastrous results : 7.68 ERA with 17 starts before losing his starting role in 2024. He could never regain his 2023 reliever form this season. 12.96 ERA in 2025, mounting HBP, WP, Walks, and plenty of blown saves....the organization finally sent him back to square 1.

Nunez throws near 100mph with a good curve. When he can command both pitches, he's extremely good reliever. He's only had one season, 2023, where he showed anything resembling command.

TIMES AND PROBABLES

Memphis vs. Norfolk ~ 7:05pm CDT

RHP Tekoah Roby (0-0, 11.57 ERA ; 4-2, 3.31 ERA on the year)

------------

Springfield vs Corpus Christi ~ 6:05pm CDT

LHP Brycen Mautz (1-0, 3.18 ERA)

Note ~ Junior Cards have a 4 game lead with 6 games left in the 1st Half. Win tonight and a Wichita Loss will win the division....Springfield holds the tie breaker.

------------------

Peoria @ Great Lakes ~ 6:05pm CDT

RHP Gerardo Salas (2-5, 8.57 ERA)

----------------

Palm Beach @ St. Lucie ~ 5:10pm CDT

RHP Leonel Sequera (1-5, 3.40 ERA)

Note ~ 2 games were on the schedule for today. Make up game from June 1st. But now it says cancelled, so I believe we only have 1 a game @ St. Lucie. The Baby Cards need to sweep the 6 game series to win the FSL East 1st half...they're 5 games out at the moment.

Let’s see how Tekoah Roby’s 2nd AAA start goes.

And go Springfield Cards!

if he's throwing Sliders as his primary pitch again....then he's working at a goal...and that goal doesn't concern box score stats...the coaches and Izzy want that pitch up to par with the FB and Curve. We'll see. Maybe he gets better control with the Slider this time?

Congrats to LHP Braden Davis (A) on being named Florida State League Pitcher of the Week!

The 22-year-old tossed 5.2 scoreless innings for Palm Beach on Thursday, allowing just one hit and striking out a career-high 12 batters, the most of any #STLCards minor leaguer this year.

Braden Davis, Brandt Thomas, Leonel Sequera and Savacool are all looking decent, albeit low A. So was Nolan Sparks, until the last outing. But, as Crav would say, we'll see what happens when they go to Peoria where pitchers go to die, lol. Still good to see, especially 19 year old Sequera.

Actually McGreevy and Graceffo blossomed in Peoria. They tanked in AA...initially.

What do you think of Brycen Mautz? I had kind of given up on him. Do you still think he could be a major league pitcher?

That's interesting... do you think there's anything to make of this "demotion," or they're just trying to ease him back in?

Tink? Ease him back in, he was set to throw in Memphis to start the season, then suffered the ribcage injury on his last Spring Training start. Training facilities are better at Hammons than Auto Zone

Nunez? Last ditch effort to get something right with him.

last year, 1st time through, he was pretty good. Occasional HR in the first time through, but his damage was usually done in the 3rd-5th inning. Peoria wasn't kind to him. I was surprised at his promotion to Springfield to start the season.

I had him pegged as a long reliever if he made it to the majors after last season; I'm still not off that....but I'm encouraged by his better year so far....especially 2nd time through the order.

We'll see. I don't think 5.00 ERA is out of the question with Memphis. The lineups in AAA are littered with good hitting veterans, and prospects who see baseballs like they were a beach ball.

Yay for WBDB days. They should change it to WBBD days, but I guess they’re preparing them for Oli ball, even if he might not be the manager when they reach the MLB.

it took me a moment to realize what you were saying....Initially, I was trying to figure out which two T.V. Stations east of the Mississippi you were talking about  . I don't know if that's a blonde moment or not, but it felt like it.

I like the WBBD "channel" more...until the "D" can figure out how to hit ....again.

Tip of the cap to your cleverness :D
