This trade has truly shaken the Sox/Yanks obsessives at the Eastern Sports Propaganda Network; it might be the first time SportsCenter ever led with something besides the NBA.

Not sure how his bat profiles in that stadium but I really like the trade for the Giants. He should most certainly help. He’s only 28 and almost a 30 bWAR player.

Should have 2-3 big years left in him.

Have you seen Devers contract?
Dude, you got to pay for good players which unfortunately the Cardinals never do. They are in the bottom tier of the league when it comes to largest contracts ever. Goldschmidt contract was the biggest one ever.
And they have 11 WS...doing something right

I will always hold their past in high regards.
I think that we should also acknowledge that they once had a competitive advantage
similar to the NYY.

The NYY kept their advantages. Did the Cardinals?
Money isn't everything but that gap is incredible wide now.

And 3 ws in the last 55 years. So they were great in the old days, them and the Yankees would dominate each decade. Now it's a money game and an owner like Dewitt won't compete

Is it? The last WS win for the Yankees? Last for the Cards?

Your too smart not to understand the point.

What was that differences in the payroll of the Cardinals teams in '06 and '11 and the top 4
spending teams those years? The gaps have definitely widened the Cardinals once had more players
trying out for their team than most teams. That's when 8 of those 11 were won.

NYY hasn't won one true, but they are there and always picked to be there.
Why? they kept a competitive advantage by spending.
As recently as 2019 Cards spent $197 million. They were 7 that year in spending.
the top 3 that year was Boston $224, NYY $215, and the Cubs $214 the gap was only $25 million tops,
that's nothing. Now teams exceed the CBT by $100 million. Being number 7 now means teams
out spend you by $100 million. IF not for the wildcard all playoff teams would come from that group.
That's a significant competitive advantage don't you think?

It's a different game now. Spend close to the cap or likely stay home.
