Trivia
My daughter is pleased about the revival of the local community theater group in her SE Missouri town. That reminded me that a very famous rock band recorded a cover of a song from a very famous musical theater production. Can you name the band and the show?

Re: Trivia
Correct.
Solo voice but George and John backed on acoustic guitar and Ringo on what sounds like bongos. The song is from The Music Man, the brilliant creation of Meredith Willson, who wrote the story, the lyrics and the music. The play opened on Broadway in 1957 and won 5 Tony awards. It was turned into a very successful movie in 1962, starring Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, Buddy Hackett and 8 year old Ronnie Howard aka Opie Taylor aka Academy Award winning director.

Re: Trivia
Another famous rock band - Traffic - recorded the Bricusse-Newley song "Feelin' Good" from the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint-the Smell of the Crowd. The song was recorded live at the Fillmore West and released on Traffic's Last Exit LP in 1969. The song had earlier been recorded by Nina Simone, and has been recorded by many others over the years.
I saw Traffic perform the song as a trio live in 1970, and did not like it much. I was only 14 at the time, but in years to follow I began to appreciate it very much. Traffic did not record many covers, but this one was outstanding.

Never knew that. Certainly a famous band and a well- known show. Traffic made sooo much good music.12xu wrote: ↑14 Jun 2025 19:58 pm Another famous rock band - Traffic - recorded the Bricusse-Newley song "Feelin' Good" from the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint-the Smell of the Crowd.
