Blues Have Interesting Target To Consider In Hurricanes Forward

One pending unrestricted free agent who could make a lot of sense for the Blues to target this off-season if he hits the market on July 1 because of this is Carolina Hurricanes forward Jack Roslovic.

If the Blues brought in Roslovic, he would certainly have the potential to provide them with more depth scoring. This is because the 6-foot-1 forward has been a solid offensive contributor throughout his career, and this carried over to this season with the Hurricanes. In 81 games this campaign with the Metropolitan Division club, he posted 22 goals and 39 points. He has also hit the 40-point mark twice during his career.

With numbers like these, Roslovic could be a solid addition to the Blues' third line and second power-play unit. In addition, the 2015 first-round pick also offers good versatility, as he can play both center and on the wing. Thus, the Blues could use him in multiple situations, which certainly adds to his appeal.

Don’t love Roslovic but there are worse options. He fits the bill as a stopgap Middle 6 center who won’t require a huge contract.

He seems like a prime overpay risk to me. He was very ineffective and a healthy scratch half the time for the Canes these playoffs. Buyer beware IMO.

His history is concerning and the pic of him on Wikipedia shows crazy eyes. Not the kind that are valuable for playoff hockey.

+1. Him or Pius Suter or somebody similar would be better than nothing, but whether their contract makes them worthwhile is debatable.

Any chance the Ducks make Ryan Strome available? Would we have interest if they did? They have two young top 6 centers and are rumored to be after Marner. He isn't a defensive or faceoff stalwart but he upgrades skill and playmaking in the middle 9.

Yeah and only 13min ATOI - scored a decent amount for that, but very few hits, though not bad on the draw this past season (only).

I'd rather just roll Dean/Dvorsky or re-sign Faksa.

Yeah given the choice I’d prefer Suter to Roslovic.

Strome would also be a good fit if he’s on the market, and his 2 year deal would time very well for bridging the gap to Dvorsky.

Dean still needs time in the AHL IMHO. And Im guessing Dvorsky will get the Thomas treatment: time on a wing before the bring him along as the #3 center. Need to add someone to at least provide insurance at the position.

Faksa is a good 4th liner, but hadnt averaged more than 15m a game in years. They need someone who can push Sunny down.

I’d rather have Kotkaniemi if the Canes picked up some of the salary

Dean looked ready last year until he got hurt and rode the injury train for almost the entire season. He may need some time in the AHL, but he's sort of my dark horse to make the team out of camp. He finished the season well in Springfield. I don't see Dvorsky starting at wing unless there is an injury or two and they'd rather get him in than others who are older. Currently, there's no wing spot available. There is a C spot available. It's up to these guys to prove it though, and I could certainly see Army acquiring a stop-gap veteran.

I'd hate to see them sign Roslovic to a multi-year deal, but if they think he's good enough for an offensive 3C I wouldn't cry about a 1 year deal.

Man alive the fascination with Dean is, well, fascinating. Dude is already 22 years old, hasn’t stayed healthy, hasn’t sniffed the NHL outside of a cup of coffee 2 seasons ago and a few are still pencilling him in for 3C minutes. Guys…reality check time. Dean is going to be lucky to see any NHL time again in his career. He’s been lapped by other, younger prospects. You can blame it on injuries if you want but that doesn’t change the reality of the situation.

My question on Roslovic is does he do enough to make a middle six line with young talented wingers MORE effective at ES?

What center prospects have lapped him? Why would him being injured for most of this season make him less skilled or less likely to make it in the end?

He’s far from our top prospect but he’s still a decent one. Probably our 2nd best C prospect after Dvorsky.

That said, I’m not advocating for him to be our 3C. We need to go out and get a middle-6 C.

I don't know ... put me in the more likely than not that he does make it. I had him relegated lower on my list of prospects (I think the last one I posted I forgot him) but he did come back and look suprisingly good at the end of the year for Springfield. It was noticeable. He had a cup of coffee with the Blues and looked like a possible player. You're right he got derailed but he showed me enough that I'd leave the door open to him returning to the big club at some point. He might not win a spot out of camp but he could get games this year. There's plenty yet unsettled at the center spot. I don't think he's out of the plans though.

Fascination is seeing the reality of our center prospect pool?

Last offseason we traded for Faksa and went into the season with Thomas, Schenn, Sunny, and Faksa with the idea that Buch might play center. Other than them, who did Army have penciled in to play some C in case of injury?

Did you watch Dean at the prospect tournament or preseason (when he got injured)? He was noticeably one of the best prospects at the tourney and looked like he was pushing for a spot. The reason everyone forgot about him and wrote him off is because he was injured for basically the whole season. He's still a legit prospect no matter what you think about him.

Nevermind the fact that you clearly overlooked my statements: "There is a C spot available. It's up to these guys to prove it though, and I could certainly see Army acquiring a stop-gap veteran.

I'd hate to see them sign Roslovic to a multi-year deal, but if they think he's good enough for an offensive 3C I wouldn't cry about a 1 year deal."

You've also missed other discussion I've had about acquiring guys like Mercer, ROR, and Trocheck. Or even just above where I stated "I'd rather just roll Dean/Dvorsky or re-sign Faksa." because I am not sold on Roslovic.

Are you also going to tell me the reality of Dvorsky as a center prospect? Dean may very well not pan out, but you're making up a lot of (bleep) and dismissing further points of the discussion because you have it in your head that there are a bunch of guys clamoring about Dean, when really it seems to be the opposite.
