Padilla is what...17 or 18...Is he a legit prospect? Seems like he's always on base, but who knows in these lower levels of professional baseball.
Thoughts on this kid when you have some time?

I mean MLB has him as the 8th best prospect in the system and I think Baseball America have had him as the 5th best or something, they were higher on him than MLB. So yes, he’s a legit prospect. He grew like 4 inches since last season as well, so he’s still growing into what he’ll be.

Interesting that Cardinal Nation in their May update brought Padilla up from 38 to 33. It's safe to say that they are more of a "what have you done lately" crowd.

Rainiel Rodriguez has jumped from 34 to 15.

Wouldn't be surprised if there is another upward move for both in the June update.

Yea, I would think fans/a site like Cardinal Nation have much less of an idea about players like Padilla that are in the DSL/rookie ball than the scouting world like MLB or Baseball America.

Actually, I think Brian Walton and Blake Newberry are managing the month to month movement. They were the ones who put the 2 prospects on the list in the first place. But, although they are scouts, they want to see the players in person to stake a claim, and that usually doesn't happen until they are playing in the States. It's a conservative process.

very much a "what have you done for me lately" site. I remember banging my head against the wall b/c most of the guys on there voted Lee Stoppleman into the Top 10 on the fan vote exercise at the end of the season...10-12 years ago? They love them some flavor of the week relievers in Springfield And they undervalue true prospects that are healthy.

as in this year? No....next year? Maybe, but probably no....they can try Church....but why would you? He just got to AAA. If you bring him up, don't sit him on the bench, he'll likely be better than at least one of the struggling OF...at any given time.

If you want to try and win this year? Then no...and we shouldn't be trying to win with this team....we overachieved in May, and we all loved it...they didn't add anything to this team, so my expectations were a reset/rebuild....let's keep doing that. Let the other kids play for at least another month, make trades accordingly after that for better prospects/future. Don't be afraid to trade a Walker, a Noot, a VS2...if you can land better, or if you feel the return is something you can actually coach up...then trade them.

But overall...there's no immediate help. We took the best of what we had available and went with it for 2025. The Farm is trying to catch up.

In 2027/2028...the OF will likely look much better.

CCard, I'm not trying to protect eggs. I'm just not willing to trade assets that we've tried to put together for the future this season....we're not the best team in the division, we're not in a class with SD and SF whom we're chasing for a wild card.

that's all. So...we use Siani and Vilade. It happens. We made GREAT run in May, better than I thought we would...we stayed healthy, that helped....now we're a little hobbled, and multiple people are cold all of sudden. We don't have the players to throw at the problem...other than cleaning out a pretty thin Minor League system for rentals to help in this season. I'm not willing to do that, it's taken a while to move the minors out of the basement...lot's of work still left to do.
