Padilla is what...17 or 18...Is he a legit prospect? Seems like he's always on base, but who knows in these lower levels of professional baseball.

I mean MLB has him as the 8th best prospect in the system and I think Baseball America have had him as the 5th best or something, they were higher on him than MLB. So yes, he’s a legit prospect. He grew like 4 inches since last season as well, so he’s still growing into what he’ll be.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 09:44 am Padilla is what...17 or 18...Is he a legit prospect? Interesting that Cardinal Nation in their May update brought Padilla up from 38 to 33. It's safe to say that they are more of a "what have you done lately" crowd.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 09:47 amI mean MLB has him as the 8th best prospect in the system and I think Baseball America have had him as the 5th best or something, they were higher on him than MLB. Rainiel Rodriguez has jumped from 34 to 15.
Wouldn't be surprised if there is another upward move for both in the June update.

Yea, I would think fans/a site like Cardinal Nation have much less of an idea about players like Padilla that are in the DSL/rookie ball than the scouting world like MLB or Baseball America.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 10:17 amInteresting that Cardinal Nation in their May update brought Padilla up from 38 to 33. Turns 18 in 2 weeks and listed already at 6'/170lbs...so if Future's right and he's taller now you have to imagine he'll develop some power to go with the OBP and speed (20 SB to 3 CS in 23 games)Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 09:44 am Padilla is what...17 or 18...Is he a legit prospect? That said I try not to get too excited about anyone before they step foot in Low A.

very much a "what have you done for me lately" site. I remember banging my head against the wall b/c most of the guys on there voted Lee Stoppleman into the Top 10 on the fan vote exercise at the end of the season...10-12 years ago? They love them some flavor of the week relievers in SpringfieldhugeCardfan wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 10:17 amInteresting that Cardinal Nation in their May update brought Padilla up from 38 to 33. For me, I start to pay attention, or become interested when they get to high A. I start to consider what they might look like on the Cardinals when they get to AA.3dender wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 10:19 amTurns 18 in 2 weeks and listed already at 6'/170lbs...so if Future's right and he's taller now you have to imagine he'll develop some power to go with the OBP and speed (20 SB to 3 CS in 23 games)Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 09:44 am Padilla is what...17 or 18...Is he a legit prospect? as in this year? No....next year? Maybe, but probably no....they can try Church....but why would you? He just got to AAA. If you bring him up, don't sit him on the bench, he'll likely be better than at least one of the struggling OF...at any given time.
If you want to try and win this year? Then no...and we shouldn't be trying to win with this team....we overachieved in May, and we all loved it...they didn't add anything to this team, so my expectations were a reset/rebuild....let's keep doing that. Let the other kids play for at least another month, make trades accordingly after that for better prospects/future. Don't be afraid to trade a Walker, a Noot, a VS2...if you can land better, or if you feel the return is something you can actually coach up...then trade them.
But overall...there's no immediate help. We took the best of what we had available and went with it for 2025. The Farm is trying to catch up.
In 2027/2028...the OF will likely look much better.
Re: Minor League Updates (6/13) ~ Cards System
Padilla signed at 6'0, he grew 4 inches last summer in the DSL. This comes from Baseball America who has 2 full time scouts down there. And then you have picture proof of Padilla side by side with a teammate (Rodriguez, 5'10"), there's a 6 inch height difference now, compared to when they signed 2 seasons ago when the difference was an inch or two

Game back in a delay again for lightning. But just before that Padilla had a walk and another steal.
Maybe they delayed it for his lightning speed. The thunder is now in Palm Beach.

Re: Minor League Updates (6/13) ~ Cards System
once the game is complete...official, I think that's 22 SB in 23 games played for Padilla. He missed 1 game so far.
and this is eating into the regularly scheduled 7 inning game with the FCL Mets....I wonder what is the latest they can start a game and not interfere with the Low A affiliate?
