Who can realistically be move to position for next year and beyond?

Post by Alex Reyes Cy Young »

Nado is always the favorite but I don’t see it at this point. Is it still the usual suspects Fedde, Hels?

Maybe someone less assuming? Baker, Relief pitcher?

Just curious who you see getting moved on this team if any at all?

During the coming offseason I see them trying to move Arenado and Willie but both have no trade clauses so who knows. Other then that the free agent losses will cause a fair amount of turn over.

I think they will move on from Nootbaar. He doesn’t offer enough power for left field and Cards will keep Scott and Walker. He still has two more years of control and is low cost so that will appeal to teams. Some team will like his ability to play all 3 outfield positions and on base skills to take a chance on him. Cards are selling lower than what they could have received prior but if they hold onto him another year and he doesn’t progress then they will get next to nothing.
San Diego and Seattle both have a need currently for outfield help. If Mo is still calling the shots I think he holds up on trading him but I see Bloom making this move.

Definitely on Arenado, not sure on Willie. It’s ok to have a veteran around, especially like him.

But I could see them moving Arenado, Nootbaar may be playing his way into being moved, and I could see Bloom selling high on Donovan in the offseason. We will see.

For this deadline, I suspect just Fedde/Helsley/Matz/maybe a Baker or a Maton

Add Miles and maybe Gorman to the trade deadline list. Possibly one of the two catchers not named Ivan

Miles likely blocks it and could be needed to finish the season if anyone from the rotation is moved beyond Fedde.
Today Matz has as much value as any of the popular get rid of guys
Ivan should be on the list as much as Pages is if the return is why you're dealing not just the subtraction.

On the trading block and also a free agent for 2026:
  1. SP $7.5M Fedde
  2. RP $2M Maton
  3. LR $12M Matz
  4. RP $8.2M Helsley
  5. SP $16M Mikolas (NTC)
Other NTC guys: (I don't think the NTC guys will be dealt unless they ask to be traded to a contender.)
  1. $18M Contreras (+$41.5M future)
  2. $25M Gray (+$40M future)
  3. $24M Arenado (+$34M future)
Free agent for 2027:
  1. $2.3M Romero
Other guys I would offer in trade:
Burleson - no defense; trade high
Gorman - no defense; surplus of 2B; Arenado NTC; Contreras NTC
Siani - surplus of CF; trade high
A catcher (Pozo?, Crooks?)

Trade targets should be young pitching prospects... not necessarily MLB ready.

Rough depth chart...
C Pages, Pozo, Crooks, Bernal
1B Contreras
2B Donovan, Gorman, Saggese, Fermin
SS Winn, Wetherholt
3B Arenado, Prieto, Mendoza
LF Nootbar
CF Scott, Siani, Torres, Barrero, Antico, Church, Davis
RF Walker
DH Herrera, Burleson

SP Gray, Fedde, Mikolas, Liberatore, Pallante, McGreevy, Mathews, Graceffo, Roby, Taylor, Henderson, Mautz, Racjic, Hansen
RRP Helsley, Maton, Leahy, Fernandez, O'Brien, Svanson, Roycroft, Granillo, Gomez, Munoz, Weiss, Ralston, Berrios, Gastelum
LRP Matz, King, Romero, Mosqueda

I'd move on from Noot and Hurdy.

I think teams will foam at the mouth for Hurdy. He turns 29 next year and Noot will be 28.

I think teams will look at Noot to be a little less valuable, but if you throw in another player, those 2 could get some good young talent

This winter I look for Bloom to do major house cleaning.
The 2026 Cardinals will look much different as Bloom and his boys
Rebuild the team with both minor league guys currently and trade for youngsters too.

Looking forward to the winter meetings as Bloom wheels and deals .
Could be some big surprises .

If this is what you think is going to happen, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Bloom has never been a wheeler-dealer. He is another deliberate dude. That's part of why he got the job.

All too much deliberation and not enough speed.
I seem to remember that from one of them U.S. Supreme Court cases.
