Been saying the same thing- except for the Carp part. He has a very good eye but lacks the eye-hand coordination to square up balls consistently. He also is a below avg outfielder who is not real fast and frequently looks a clumsy or off balance making plays.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:30 pm Lars Nootbaar is the most overrated Cardinal since Matt Carpenter

Re: Noot exposed
As far as prospects go Donny is the only Cardinal who might start for any other legit postseason contender. Cardinal roster is full of utility players most who would be on the bench or in said legit playoff contender's triple A system. Entire Cardinal organization continues to slump.

Winn and Arenado would also qualify. Contreras might as well. I suspect in a year or two Walker will. Once JJ is promoted...etc.Sunstroke wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 22:19 pm As far as prospects go Donny is the only Cardinal who might start for any other legit postseason contender. Yeah. Sorry he is struggling. That's why I said preferably Church. He's 24 and been around. All he's done is hit. I think he'll be in St Louis sooner or later. Not sure how long he stays....but, he could surprise. He's purportedly a better fielder than Noot as well.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:13 pmKoperniak has a .608 OPS in Memphis, I’m not sure that is where I would be turning to right now.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:12 pm I'm one guilty of thinking Noot is an outfield starter. I'm dead wrong. He has enough talent to be a 4th or 5th outfielder....that's about it. We need to come up with a LF starter. I'm willing to look at Koperniak and/or Church (preferable). They can't do worse and I'm disinclined to think that Siani is worth another shot as a starter. Please. Maybe once the fix Davis' hole he will become a starter in a year or two. But, for now, get the LH batter Nootbaar out of the lineup and put a RH bat in there....Maybe even platoon. But, Noot is stinking the place up.

Fun Fact: Matt Carpenter led the league in more offensive stats and more separate seasons as a Cardinal than Matt Holliday, Paul Goldschmidt, and Nolan Arenado combined.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:30 pm Lars Nootbaar is the most overrated Cardinal since Matt Carpenter
Re: Noot exposed
this is just what he is, and has always been. He will have a couple hot weeks and help the team, people get really excited. But the inevitable month long DEEP slump is always coming. Very similar to Gorman
All players have slumps, but starting quality players make adjustments and work their way out of them much quicker than Nootbaar

Re: Noot exposed
Noot seemed to have a pretty good start this year. He just couldn't keep it up. I imagine the rigors of everyday starts exposes the flaws one by one. I don't have a problem with keeping him around as a 4th outfielder but lead off simply won't get it.11WSChamps wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:21 pmNothing wrong with hoping a guy succeeds.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:12 pm I'm one guilty of thinking Noot is an outfield starter. When he was called up I believe he was projected to be a platoon type extra OF'er player.
Some trades were made, TO couldn't stay healthy then fell out of favor, Bader and Edman weren't going to get the contracts they wanted from this organization and Nootbar was for lack of a better term a lazy cheap choice and somehow marketable with the fans.
He's had his moments but we need a lot more.

So...not an 'extension' candidate?

Re: Noot exposed
People forget how good Carpenter was when he was really good. And despite his lack of speed, he scored a lot of runs as a leadoff man. It's not his fault that the front office extended him past his expiration date.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 08:58 amFun Fact: Matt Carpenter led the league in more offensive stats and more separate seasons as a Cardinal than Matt Holliday, Paul Goldschmidt, and Nolan Arenado combined.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:30 pm Lars Nootbaar is the most overrated Cardinal since Matt Carpenter

Yes. And again.
And again.
Twice more tonight.
Stood like a statue watching strike three sail by.
With runners on base.
And trailing.
I will teach this one more time: baseball rewards aggression and punishes passivity.
Truly stunning that Nootbaar is oblivious to the obvious.
Re: Noot exposed
Bring up Nathan Church and give him a good tryout in LF. He has a .406 batting average going at AAA Memphis.Melville wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 22:10 pmAgain.Melville wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:33 pmSuffers from the same baseball disease: passivity.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:30 pm Lars Nootbaar is the most overrated Cardinal since Matt Carpenter

Re: Noot exposed
When does Church get a chance? That .406 batting average at Memphis is pretty impressive. He's only 24. Walker RF, Church LF, Burleson DH, Herrera C. Nootbaar off the bench for a while.Melville wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 22:16 pmBurleson will need LF once Walker returns to RF.Shady wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 22:14 pmBring up Nathan Church and give him a good tryout in LF.Melville wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 22:10 pmAgain.Melville wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:33 pmSuffers from the same baseball disease: passivity.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:30 pm Lars Nootbaar is the most overrated Cardinal since Matt Carpenter

Re: Noot exposed
Noot sure wasn’t passive in his final at bat. That final pitch he swung at bounced on home plate.Melville wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 22:10 pmAgain.Melville wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:33 pmSuffers from the same baseball disease: passivity.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:30 pm Lars Nootbaar is the most overrated Cardinal since Matt Carpenter
