Kyrou would bring in a haul. Or better yet--Trade Kyrou and a package for something.

That being said--Id probably keep the guy. 2024-25 was a good year for him Average playoffs--but he still had 3 big goals.
Kyrou is a 30 goal pace playoff performer, not sure what else he has to prove. He could certainly be more physical and i think he will add a little more of that to his game but its not necessary to have playoff success

Wouldn’t look to trade either, it’d have to be a deal you can’t pass up, but Kyrou is more valuable and younger. I’m concerned with how Buchy’s contract will age. But he has a full NTC so I seriously doubt it happens.
This, exactly this.

Buch hands down. Not a fan of the contract and we're loaded at LW. Move him out, Holloway up and your pick of Bolduc/Neighbours for the 2nd line.

Buch for me and it isn’t close. He’s not as good as people give him credit for. Also, his contract will age like an albatross. Finally, I can’t forgive him for his boneheaded play in the final minute against WPG where he had the entire zone to skate the puck out or dump it softly or both, but instead fired it a mile wide. Blues give up tying goal 45 seconds later. For a supposed strong 2-way forward, he’s awful in his own zone and his offense continues to decline. See ya Buch.

Considering organizational strengths and the age of our top 6 wings and wing prospects, it's not a tough call to me. Buch's contract length (considering his age) is too long for what we have in the pipeline.

Not to say that ends up being the correct answer all said and actually done.
Agreed.

Based on age==Buch would go first. He was very good in playoffs though. Good playoff performer with Blues for sure.
In all games played (LAST 4 YEARS)post season(2) and regular season..Buch had 282 pts. Kyrou 295. Buch + 56 Kyrou -17 in last 4 years. Kyrou was awesome last year at +23 Buch at +10

Kyrou has more games played. Buch missed 36 games in 4 years. Kyrou only missed 11 games in 4 years. Played in 82 last two.

Now that I deep dive--Kyrou is kind of a stud. Buch goes first all day. That being said Buch has actually been really good here. We could do a lot worse. Contract is a bit nutty in latter years.

The answer depends on what you want as an organization. A: Do you want to have a good season and be out in the first round, or B: Do you want to win a Stanley Cup.

Then answer the following. Which player is capable of playing with the most courage?

- Courage to fight through a tight checking series and contribute in all scenarios?
- Courage to take a big hit as a skilled player and then still be willing to skate through it and make plays for four rounds?
- Courage to go to the front of the net and take a pounding if it means setting up a goal for a team mate?

Based on these questions and what you have seen of both of these players. The answer is:

If you prefer A: then trade Buchnevich
If you prefer B: Trade Kyrou

Kyrou can get open and rifle shots well in the playoffs. That is all.
You get more than two lousy assists in 28 playoff games by having and displaying :

Courage to fight through a tight checking series and contribute in all scenarios?
- Courage to take a big hit as a skilled player and then still be willing to skate through it and make plays for four rounds?
- Courage to go to the front of the net and take a pounding if it means setting up a goal for a team mate?

Finding open ice for a fancy shot does not carry a team deep. Especially when you make it obvious that this is all you are good for.

In the playoffs, Jordan Kyrou projects to 6 assist over 82 games...

Buchnevich is the anti-kyrou in playoff performance.
16 assists in one less playoff game.
He will dig and scramble and battle wherever he can find a perch to do so.
IF Kyrou keeps learning how a man plays playoff hockey from Mr. Holloway, he will be a great value.
He might….

I played and coached a very long time. One thing that remained constant -

Leopards don't change their spots.

You either have battle or you don't. You can take a hit or you can't.

It takes four rounds of the toughest hockey you will ever play in your life. I've yet to see that. And we're to the point where he is what he is.

Buchnevich, on the other hand, took that Game 7 loss hard. It ripped his guts out. And I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he has a monster year next year. He hated to lose.

neither. Kyrou gets traded and you lose your only guy that flirts with 40 goals. Buchnevich gets traded and you lose essentially your 2nd best forward since being acquired. Could make the argument that he is the best but I'd award that to Thomas. What do the Blues gain from moving either of these guys. Unless Kyrou is swapped for Brady Tkachuk or Mitch Marner in a sign and trade and we get some kind of relief on the Mitch marner deal where they throw in a sweetener, it makes 0 sense.

Paying for Kyrou on the free market would run you up to 9.5-10m right now easy.

Kind of an apples and oranges question

Aging left wing where we are really deep VS young right winger which is not as deep

Trading is about the return as much as the price and the return on these 2 players is vastly different.

Skilles, you are a professional Coach. What are your views of Kyrou as a "Playoff" performer?

I think he was hurt/injured, guessing ribs and I think he is going to have to play more aware of being targeted. I'm not big on harping to much on athletes to act or perform out of character so I don't think he needs to be physical/mean etc. but he is going to have to learn that other teams are going to circle his name and try to take him out.

Overall I think he has played pretty well in the playoffs but this time the jets got him and I think there is danger of that happening more going forward and him struggling to deal with being a constant target. I think he could get stronger in the off season for sure but while I am an athletic trainer I train pitching and batting not hockey players so hopefully someone has better advice than I.

Having said all that I only do private personal training now days and not coaching because I just want to teach not manage a bunch of attitudes and ego.
