What could Army land with Hofer+
Looking at the Blues cap space i am not sure it makes a ton of sense to pay Hofer around the $4 million ish he may get or may get offered. If Army choses to trade Hofer before free agency for instance what could Hofer and a prospect of some sort land? Would Army be content to take the 2nd round pick if another team offer sheets Hofer, i think some sort of trade makes more sense, thoughts?

You’re going to spend at least 2 of the 4 you saved signing a backup that can at least stop a beach ball. For a mere $2M I’ll just keep HoferHarry S Deals wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 13:39 pm Looking at the Blues cap space i am not sure it makes a ton of sense to pay Hofer around the $4 million ish he may get or may get offered. Change your title--What could Army land with Binnington. Keep Hofer and Ellis if someone really has to be traded. Otherwise don't trade Hofer---Trade one of the 20 or son decent recently drafted players.

Ellis is already signed I'm betting he's the back up next year no way they trade Binnie and they won't want to put $10 million into the goalie position.
Could Army land a young center for Hofer + a mid level prospect or straight up?

We all have seen Binner performs better when they don’t wear him out, and I don’t think they’re ready to give Ellis 20-25 games.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 16:31 pm Ellis is already signed I'm betting he's the back up next year no way they trade Binnie and they won't want to put $10 million into the goalie position.

Secondly, goalies just don’t fetch that much in trades.
Re: What could Army land with Hofer+
What's interesting is just what do the Blues believe they have in Joel? He a great back up guy in tandem with JB but do they actually see him as the heir apparent? How do they rate Ellis?
I think a 2 year bridge deal would put both his and JB's contract at the same deadline, probably not a great idea?
I believe the Blues value him more than a second so I think they will try to extend him. 9.5 million for the two of them is not bad at all short term and Joel could rather easily be moved on that value if it came to pass.

Re: What could Army land with Hofer+
New Jersey’s goalies are a 34 yr old Markstrom and pending UFA Jake Allen. This is why I suggested that if Hofer wants more than what the Blues want to pay, then to maybe package him with a prospect for Nemec.
That said, I’d still absolutely lean towards keeping Hofer. But he becomes eligible for an offer sheet in 2 1/2 weeks so it’s something to consider depending on how far apart the 2 sides are.

That could be a solid move for the franchise. Im mildly surprised no extension was reached as of yet my guess is a move of some sort may be comingSTL fan in MN wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 19:07 pm New Jersey’s goalies are a 34 yr old Markstrom and pending UFA Jake Allen. Are you still least going to ask Buffalo to bend over, first?Zizzle1297 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:17 pm Hofer, Leddy or Faulk, Buch to Buffalo maybe add a few more mid prospects

Maybe if he adds D’ags, Cole, a 3rd and about 10 more middling or negative assets then maybe Buffalo will say yes to it.tfriede2 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:59 pmAre you still least going to ask Buffalo to bend over, first?Zizzle1297 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:17 pm Hofer, Leddy or Faulk, Buch to Buffalo maybe add a few more mid prospects

Re: What could Army land with Hofer+
Nope. I have posted previously on this. Hofer has size and positioning, but he has none of the movement the Binner does. Solid, yes, game changer? I have not seen that yet from Hofer. With a great team he would be awesome, like the cup winning Wings teams. The Blues do not have that team right now. He could prove me wrong as the sample size is somewhat low, but not many truly amazing saves/stolen goals IMO.
However he seems to have an awesome presence and I for one would love to keep that in the org. Maybe the positioning can make up for the what I see as a lack of game breaking athleticism....

Re: What could Army land with Hofer+
The more i read about Nemec, wow he has the potential to be the RHD anchor for the franchise after CP. Sometimes with Euro dmen it can take awhile to mesh it seems but thats a trade i would definitely make if its on the table. Look what happened to Broberg esp out of the gate last year he exploded with the Blues perhaps the Blues staff can unlock Nemec as well
There would be some uncertainty with Colton Ellis, Hofer had pretty good save pct in the AHL but Ellis's stats jump off the page a bit more .924 in 16 GP in '24, .922 in 42 games this year and a .933 save pct in the playoffs. This will be intriguing to see how this plays out

Re: What could Army land with Hofer+
There’d certainly be risk involved with moving Hofer out as we just don’t know how well Ellis would do as a backup. This is an important season and we know Binner is at his best when he’s not overworked, so we need a competent backup. If they let Hofer go, I’d expect the Blues to sign a decent journeyman type. A guy that’s probably played a fair amount in the NHL but probably slots in more as a #3 in most orgs these days. That journeyman and Ellis can then battle it out in camp for the backup job. If one is consistently way better all season, then the job is theirs. However, I’d think the most likely scenario would be Ellis and the journeyman essentially sharing the role and both going back and forth between Springfield and STL.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 07:37 am The more i read about Nemec, wow he has the potential to be the RHD anchor for the franchise after CP. I'd gladly throw in Vincent Riendeau, Davis Payne, Louie, Zach Sanford, our 2028 7th round pick, and Dave Hrechkosy (this was from a google search of Blues 1975 roster) to sweeten this deal. Get er done Leery.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 22:23 pmMaybe if he adds D’ags, Cole, a 3rd and about 10 more middling or negative assets then maybe Buffalo will say yes to it.tfriede2 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:59 pmAre you still least going to ask Buffalo to bend over, first?Zizzle1297 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 21:17 pm Hofer, Leddy or Faulk, Buch to Buffalo maybe add a few more mid prospects
