Kyrou or Buchnevich?

Post by Army's Mom »

I'm just curious, who would you rather have included in an outgoing package?

With Dvorsky and Stenberg possibly knocking on the door this year, there's already a glut of top 9 wingers: Buch, Snuggy, Holloway, Kyrou, Neighbours, Bolduc. Not that you have to make room for them, but we have the depth to trade from (and more wing prospects than anything else coming down the pipeline after Dvorsky and Stenberg).

So, it seems reasonable to assume Army will trade from strength (wing) to fix a weakness (2C, 2RD).

It also seems safe to assume a trade partner will want an established player for their 2C/2RD. Those aren't getting sent here for D'ags, Cole, and a pick.

Would you rather see Buchnevich traded to return a 2C or 2RD, or Kyrou?

Just curious. What say you, and why?

Neither player will be traded doesnt make sense. The Blues cant replace Kyrou in no way shape or form, Kyrou is likely to get close or surpass 40 goals at some point and hes on a team friendly contract.
Buch struggled at the center experiment prior to Monty, Buch ended up 26 pts in 26 games to close the season strong hes a top line LW here, wouldnt trade him either

Maybe Army does deal for an RFA type of center but as you say Thomas, Schenn are already here maybe resign Faksa, look at Dean and Dvorsky soon so why deal assets to lock in another center when Army can sign a 3rd line type center or an older vet on a short deal AND keep the assets till the Blues see more of what exactly they have?

I'm not saying either will be traded. I'm asking who would you rather?

If another GM came to Army with the perfect 2C fit for the Blues, and asked for a top 6 winger, who would you rather trade?

Of the two, given their ages and contracts, I’d trade Buchy before Kyrou. Wouldn’t look to trade either, it’d have to be a deal you can’t pass up, but Kyrou is more valuable and younger. I’m concerned with how Buchy’s contract will age. But he has a full NTC so I seriously doubt it happens.

Nope not all he will rebound and be a 60+ point player next season with Thomas, PP, PK Buchs cap hit is not in any manner a bad deal

I wouldn't trade either straight up for a 2C that would block Dvorsky, but maybe a top-4 RHD, and I'd rather move Buch but who are teams going to ask for?

Buch's contract is worse than Kyrou's because it obviously is. I am answering the question in the OP while you are trying to shut down anything you don't want to hear as usual.

I wouldnt make a trade from the top 6 for 2C because i feel like eventually that spot is Dvorskys long term. Unless the Blues dont think Dvorsky is the guy i would ride with Schenn and sign a 3rd center until i see more. I dont think trading from the Blues top 6 is a good idea, unless as MN says somehow the Blues are blown away.
Bc its then

Holloway Thomas Snuggerud
Neighbours CENTER Kyrou
..... Schenn Bolduc

Just havent seen enough data yet from Holloway and Neighbours to guarantee they are top line calibre havent seen Stenberg yet. Pretty sure Holloway is a stud but let the process play out

No not all i disagree that $8 million for a player of Buch's class is a bad deal it isnt a bad deal league wide but we can disagree

It's the length of the deal and the NTC. That is why it's worse between the two. The OP asked which of the two if you had to pick and why and I picked and said why. The reason I picked, that Buch's contract is worse than Kyrou's, is completely correct.

My opinion..... due to contract, age of players and projection of both players remaining career years ....would be to move Buch.

Not to say that ends up being the correct answer all said and actually done.

I can respect that - I've advocated elsewhere for adding a 3C as well, so I definitely see the logic.

As for Buchy - I get the feeling he's already peaked and at age 30, his contract will age worse. I'd rather build a trade package to fill a need around him if I can. Kyrou still has room to grow.

IF they are going to trade one of these guys it would likely be Kyrou this month or Buchnevich if he ever requests a trade, which seems very unlikely now. If they trade Kyrou they need to get a stud C/RW back in return, and they have to get the RIGHT guy, not somebody else's head case.

It would be a big trade, say for instance Kyrou for an extended Eichel with others on potentially both sides of the deal.

They can always aim lower for a 3C or stand pat, this would all be predicated on what they think of Kyrou's future here and who they would get back.

Trade Kyrou based on playoff numbers. Buch was decent in playoffs. Him and Thomas work well together.

Kyrou would bring in a haul. Or better yet--Trade Kyrou and a package for something.

That being said--Id probably keep the guy. 2024-25 was a good year for him Average playoffs--but he still had 3 big goals.
