Blues limited draft picks

Post by BlueGhost »

They only have three picks in the whole draft. 19th in the 1st and then don't pick again till the 5th round.

If you were the GM would you package the picks and a player to try to get a younger player that you can plugin now?

So your idea is to get rid of the 3 picks we do have? I’d say probably not. Just use them. Should be able to get a good player at 19. The 5th and 6th rounders are obviously low rate lottery tickets.

If I were a GM I'd be exploring that as part of my job every single day. Doesn't mean you will find the right deal to pull the trigger, but I would absolutely be looking into it, as I'm sure every GM/FO does.

If I can get a 2C or an improvement at 2RHD I'd absolutely consider moving our 1st (5th and 6th don't really impact any decisions) and a player (the player that's moved could change the target drastically), especially if it means I don't have to subtract, much, from the current roster. Who are these players? That's the million dollar question, and why Army gets paid the big bucks. Having fewer picks doesn't really change my mindset (we're missing out on an entire draft) if I can land a key piece with that asset, it just changes the time frame that the team gets to use that value.

Armstrong would rather a player that’s close to being ready to play than a new draft pick. Not many teams are looking to give up a player like a Bolduc or a Snuggerud that are close to being regulars. I’m sure he would also package the 1st rounder for a 22-26 year old with plenty of term left on their deal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but generally speaking aren't the missing draft picks named Broberg and Holloway? Not losing any sleep over that!

Amen to that! One of Army's best moves ever! And to think, he'd do it again even if it meant fleecing his own grandmother!

One of the best lines ever!

I'd absolutely explore what's out there. Why not? But that doesn't mean I'm in any kind of hurry to make a move. Socks would need to be knocked off.

But until they start the walk to the podium, I'd say the 19 OA should be considered available.

I doubt the 19th OA pick has ever not been available in the history of the NHL

If there is any trade involving the 1st rounder, it would likely be to move down and acquire either a 2nd or a 3rd.

I won't rule out trying to move up, but we don't really have anything to move up with so it's not very likely.

Anything is possible and Army can be pretty creative with his moves to improve the team. Trading this year's 1st really depends on the player coming to the Blues and what is added to the pick to get said player. If you told me we were going to draft another LW or LD with the 1st or we could package it up for a C or RD that's in their mid-20's, I'd go with the later.

That's what I'm thinking as a possibility.

I wonder if we could find a taker for Leddy and Faulk to recoup some 2-4th round picks.

Then maybe we sign a Jokiharju or Fabbro.

We aren't getting anything for Leddy other than maybe a lottery ticket prospect. The big thing with him would be the cap space.

Faulk, due to the limited amount of RHD might fetch something decent quite frankly since he still has 2 years left. Not anything of serious significance before everyone starts going crazy, but a mid level prospect and a 3rd rounder wouldn't be out of the question.
