Give credit where credit due
Burleson has been on fire for the last month plus.
Since May 2nd he is hitting .337/.374/.554 over 99 PAs with 5 doubles, 5 HRs, 14 RBI, and 12 runs scored.
He had an .888 OPS in May and so far has a .989 OPS in June. They are his two best months to date in his career. We’ll see if he keeps it up.
At the very least, it will help his trade value.

And he's building up some decent trade value (in a package w/Helsley or Fedde or Matz or ????) too that could increase the return should they be dealt!
Re: Give credit where credit due
It’s been nice to see. And Gorman as well.
Sure would be nice if Herrera could catch so both of those guys could have a place to play.

Not much of a Burly fan but I am appreciating his bat the last several weeks. Still don't think he offers enough overall value to be an important piece on a winning team (e.g. still only has 0.4 bWAR and 0.5 fWAR)...
I sincerely think the clear best move for the club would be to trade him next month while his value is as high as it'll ever be.

I don’t get it. He’s hitting 300, he has an OPS of 770. He scorching the ball right now, and you want to trade him. Explain.

Why are people so quick to trade this guy?
Scott and Nootbar are in the throws of what no longer can be termed as "slumps".
Arenado is in decline, Walker and Gorman are still languishing in the maybe maybe not stage, and because Herrera doesn't catch that position in the batting order is essentially nil. Contreras comes and goes with his good and bad streaks.
Yes defense is important but you have to score runs.
He's a cheap bat and is trending to the positive while several others are not.

My main explanation is he is a player without position. He would probably explode in a predictable position. Like first.imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025 09:37 am I don’t get it. He’s hitting 300, he has an OPS of 770. He scorching the ball right now, and you want to trade him. Explain.

Bloom has a lot of decisions to make . Who does he see for the long term starters for this team ? And which current vets will get moved either at trade deadline or this winter. Guess we may see the start of it at trade deadline but Bloom will not be the spokesman yet . Once the season is ended and he officially takes over for Mo , I assume Derrick Goold and others will sit down for extensive interviews with the head honcho as to what he envisions for both the winter meetings with eye to the future of our minor league system players .

No, let’s wait until he gets really cold again, then trade him.imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025 09:37 am I don’t get it. He’s hitting 300, he has an OPS of 770. He scorching the ball right now, and you want to trade him. Explain.
There is a little more to mlb trades than just trading your currently-slumping players.
Re: Give credit where credit due
Despite a decent bat (emphasis on decent, he'll never walk enough to make it truly great), he doesn't have enough overall value to be an important piece on a winning team (e.g. still only has 0.4 bWAR and 0.5 fWAR)...imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025 09:37 am I don’t get it. He's a positionless bat, this team already has two DH types (Herrera, Gorman), and it's the easiest position to fill.
When you have a replaceable asset at peak value that other teams likely value more than you (i.e. they don't already have two good DH options), it would be silly not to trade it for a greater need.
Re: Give credit where credit due
A player hitting at around .300 is nice to have in the lineup. There aren't too many of those types around. I would like for Burly to provide more power though. He's capable.3dender wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025 09:54 amDespite a decent bat (emphasis on decent, he'll never walk enough to make it truly great), he doesn't have enough overall value to be an important piece on a winning team (e.g. still only has 0.4 bWAR and 0.5 fWAR)...imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025 09:37 am I don’t get it. We all have bias, nobody is “unbiased”.Honky Tonk Man wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025 10:25 amyou sir are clearly unbiased and also correct11WSChamps wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025 09:37 am Why are people so quick to trade this guy?
