If Marner really gets $14m from Anaheim...
...what does that do to the negotiations with everyone else?
Re: If Marner really gets $14m from Anaheim...
Everyone else is going up. It’s what is happening. Doesn’t matter what Marner gets
It’s why Colorado let Rantanen go.

6 Players in the League got over 100 points. So that upper echelon will get paid.
The rest of the good to average players wont be in that ballpark. With cap going up we will see more money being thrown around. There is still a cap. Owners need to be smart==still(even with more cap money.)
Marner is special.
1.
Nikita Kucherov
121
2.
Nathan MacKinnon
116
T3.
Leon Draisaitl
106
T3.
David Pastrnak
106
5.
Mitch Marner
102
6.
McDavid
100
7.
Kyle Connor 97

Folks need to prepare for a pretty insane market reset on July 1. If you want to guess what some players will get, I suggest looking at % of the cap. Ie. If a comparable player signed 5 years ago, see what the cap hit was back then compared to the cap limit. Then see what that same % of cap would be with a $95.5M cap with the expectation it goes up way more here soon.
Guys are going to get paid.

But I don't care what they get paid unless it's the Blues paying them.
Maybe the Ducks bust out and get into the playoff sphere with a move like that. Good for them and Marner and good luck with that.....for both of them.

Marner is worth it, he’s a top 10 player in the world. I know the Ducks have long been rumored but I won’t believe he signs there until I see it. I wonder if he will take a bit less to say close to Toronto. I guess at $14 mil, plus with all the money he has already made he can move his and his wife’s family to California if need be.

Is Pat Verbeek as dumb as Kyle Dubas?
Marner at 14 would be a huge mistake unless they can trade Terry and his 7 per pronto.
If not, the Ducks would be paying out 21 per year for their top 2 soft RW'ers. Sound familiar?
Terry had one nice year and his agent turned that into a 7x7 contract. The Ducks are finding out he's a one dimensional soft 20 goal scorer. Coach Q is going to hate him and Zegras. What team would take on Terry at 5 years left at 7 per?
Colangelo looks like he might be a player (ideal big 3RW) and they still have Sennecke as a prime RW prospect.
Anaheim is also paying nearly 11 per year for old wingers Killorn and Vatrano.
Don't forget that McTavish is going to get a huge raise this summer while Carlsson & Gauthier will get theirs next summer.
Dostal is also going to get a nice raise this summer.
The Ducks are also going to need to rebuild their RHD next offseason which will cost a lot because of lack of supply and high demand.
Old warhorses Trouba & Gudas each only have 1 year left.
The Ducks appear set at LHD for a long time with Mintyukov, LaCombe, and Zellweger.
However, all 3 of those guys are going to get huge raises next summer.
The point is that perceived cap space can evaporate very quickly especially if you're not looking out on the horizon.
They need to find a sucker for Terry.

Marner with 102 in 81 games, with World-class talent around him. Thomas with 81 points in 70 games, which projects to 95 in 82 games, with Buch and State Farm.
Re: If Marner really gets $14m from Anaheim...
I really hope Army gets in on the early trade market. I don't want Marner, I want the guys teams have to sell off to sign these new high dollar contracts
Re: If Marner really gets $14m from Anaheim...
The Ducks are on the rise.
It's a free agent pick up like this. That turns them into needing another rebuild shortly.
They need to keep bringing up the youngins. Think about bringing someone in after next year.

Re: If Marner really gets $14m from Anaheim...
Yep I agree. If you pay Marner the 14 million before you have to start signing all these guys, all of a sudden you are overpaying them and set your rebuild back.
Now it's not very often you get the chance to sign a Mitch Marner so it's not easy to pass up, but I'm in agreement with you.
Re: If Marner really gets $14m from Anaheim...
Yep, and the Blues don't need a lot of new faces, they need a couple of glue pieces.
Re: If Marner really gets $14m from Anaheim...
I don't mean to hijack the post here, but talking about big money.
McDavid sure is becoming a UFA at the right time after next season with the cap going up etc.

I don't know how a team passes him up if he comes calling.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025 09:05 amYep I agree. If you pay Marner the 14 million before you have to start signing all these guys, all of a sudden you are overpaying them and set your rebuild back.

Butt I think both him and the team he goes to. Will do better if they already have establish respected veterans with letters.
Anaheim has drafted well. They also allowed their prospect to learn, fail and flourish together, mostly in the nhl. There gains was through them coming together as a team. Which aided in them being such a fun team to watch last year. I want another year of fun, before expectations become cup aspirations.
